DS bought a 80's model scooter and fixed it up to get back and forth to work and to drive around town. He has no plans to drive it on the highway.

Dh and I just purchased a 06 Honda Shadow 750cc for him to ride back and forth to work. It was cheaper to buy it and pay a monthly payment and insure it than it was for him to drive our Jeep Cherokee back and forth. The Jeep guzzles the gas. The downfall is that if it rains guess what. He drives my Jeep. And hear lately he has only got to drive it back and forth to work about 4 times since he has had it because it has done nothing but rain!!! Ugh. But this summer it will save us tons of money!

I wouldn't recommend a scooter on the highway and if he is not real use to riding a motorcycle, I would recommend him not getting anything more than 750 cc. Also the more power, the more gas you use.

Good luck!

I would love to get a scooter and was seriously looking last summer, but now I have to drive 60 miles round trip every day to school and it's mostly all interstate and highways, so that won't work. But, once I am done going to school and get a job (hopefully in town), I will look into getting a scooter. Another problem is that it is hard to get 3 kids on a scooter. And when DON'T I have them with me, other than when I go to school?

DH has a motorcycle. He has ridden for years (not due to gas prices) but now rides it as much as possible due to gas prices. His other vehicle is a diesel extended cab truck ($4/gal.) and the bike really helps us out.

I had thought about this for DH. For years he has told me that he wanted a motorcycle. He drives a full size truck now and goes about 65 miles round trip to work on the highway. What scares me is the safety of being on a motorcycle with all the trucks and cars around him.

I think it would be better to buy a smaller car for him to drive to work that gets better than the 19 mpg his truck does on the highway. For instance a used Camry will get him about 10 more miles per gallon. That could save him over $20 a week on gas alone. Of course then I need to factor in the cost of owning another vehicle for insurance and all. I don't know if it really is worth it. (My DH is a TRUCK man he is so tall that he doesn't like driving in most cars!!)

Can children ride on the back of a scooter?

I have one daughter, 4 years old, is it legal to ride with her? My father has a GEM car and loves it, and I know she can ride in that in her little booster seat.

I've been thinking of getting a GEM car or a veggie grease car, but heck, maybe a Scooter would be even better.
