I am looking forward to the garage sale season but will definitely plan my trips more carefully. I will hit more street sales or church sales where I can make one stop and hit a lot.

I just went last weekend. I drive an SUV, horrible, I know...I used up about 1/2 a tank driving all over the metro area. But, I did pick up many good items. I bought Ralph Lauren pants for $3.00 when they are originally $65+ for work. I will keep going until gas is over $5.00 (I hope that isn't realistic). I do need to make a map of where I need to go so I am not driving all over the cities.

Where i live it is worth it. the average home sells for $350,000 ( we live in a much much cheaper house) and you would be suprised what people sell. I got a few pairs of sweat pants for DS. They had the tags on them and were from old navy. At 25 cents a pair it was worth it. I also got a gently used coach purse for $5. Books, cookbooks and gagets are cheap too. That way if i end up not likeing it i am not out much. We still try and walk to them.. or stop on our errand route. I will continue to go to them. Even with gas prices it is still worth it.

I have been trying to hit the "community yard sales" in order to keep the miles lower. But here in San Diego even that can put 50 miles on because the city I live in tends to be lower income and the sales that are here tend to have more junk than anything else. I am thinking about trying some of the bigger rummage sales at churches or something, though.

I am mapping out my route better and if at all possible contacting (online ads) the seller to find out if they have what I'm looking for. Also I will be more inclinded to do neighborhood or subdivision sales then individual sales that I have to drive all over town to get to.

In fact I'm taking 2 hours off of work friday morning to hit a rich subdivision that I've always had good luck in. I figure I'll get first pick and there will be less people there because it's a friday morning.
