Does anyone have a checking account that offers free money orders? If so do you use them instead of checks to pay bills?

I don't know why I haven't done this before. I can get them free from my credit union and checks cost money.

I had a real problem keeping track of checks and getting overdrawn. i started using money orders as part of my cash only plan ( for when I had to mail something). It really helped me track it all better. Now I use regular checks again, but not very often.

We have an account in a credit union also, and they do offer money orders, but it is in the next town and that is 30 mins. away. When ever we do go there I don't think of them, but that is a really great idea. I pay the majority of our bills online so it may not benefit us.

I don't use money orders, but we have some rental properties and some of our tenants pay their rent with money orders. We take them to the bank and cash or deposit them as though they were checks.

I use money orders quite a bit. They are really handy. I once and a while get overdrawn at the bank too. So these insure that payments will not get bounced and I will get any fees-car payments, rent, etc. One time (about five years ago) my landlord lost my money order. It was soo easy to track it and see that it was never cashed and the money order company issued new (Free) money orders for me and everything. I was able to avoid any late fees since I was able to prove that I purchased them before rent was due.

Yes! I get them for $.19 at walmart or at the gas station. My utilities, mortgage, and insurance come are drafted from checking. For everything else, I get a money order and things are paid.
