Will there be any fees/charges from Direct TV for downgrading or canceling? If so add those in. I don't think you'd miss those channels, there is so much more to do with your time and I'm sure you could easily find other shows to replace those that you would miss. I say get rid of it and get the basic cable, but if you are under contract with DTV you might just want to downgrade.
We went with only basic channels for the past 7 years (however I'm not that into tv so it never bothered me) and just got Direct TV for my dh for valentines day. Where we live we had to pay for basic channels like $20 something a month plus taxes so it wasn't much more for us to upgrade to direct tv and it made my dh happy.
