I wash pretty much everything on warm, unless it says otherwise.

I live in an apartment, with communal washing machines, so it costs me $1.25 to wash a load whether it's hot, warm or cold. I don't wash on hot because it shrinks clothing, and I don't on cold for no real reason.

I'm a total germaphobe so I wash sheets, towels, underwear, socks, etc on the sanitize cycle...then dry on high heat. I'll usually wash our clothes on cold or warm...depending on what it is. Basically, if I can wash it on hot, I will...just because I'm afraid of germs. You should see me when people get sick around here...their pillows get thrown in there too. I'm such a sad case

I wash everything in cold-- occasionally I will wash a load of whites in hot if I have to use bleach, but that is rare. I have never had a problem with washing in cold.... And I think I do it that way because that's the way my mom did laundry while I was growing up....

I wash sheets and towels in hot with a cold rinse. This is to kill the dust mites. If someone gets sick, then I'll wash the soiled clothing on hot to kill the bacteria.

I never use warm.

Everything else gets washed in cold. This saves energy and $$ as the water heater doesn't need to kick on. Also, I've read that washing in warm and hot water helps set a stain.

Like was posted above, it's the agitation in the washer that gets your clothing clean. That's why it is best to not "pack" the clothes in the washer.

Bad stains come out easer in hot, at least for me. Stains like baby poo. Other than that, I use cold for everything.

I always wash in cold. Unless something needs extra sanitizing because someone's been sick.

If I use a powder laundry detergent I run some warm water in first to dissolve it then switch to cold. But I normally use liquid from Shaklee.

I have found that washing in cold leaves your whites discolored even when drying in the sun. But it preserves your darker colors. Maybe it also relates to the detergent used. I use Shaklee but I have heard that Tide w/ Bleach helps with the whites issue. I just can't see using a product that has toxins in it to balance out the environmental issue with the hot water. I line dry so I use that as an excuse to use the hot water for my whites. I only have one load of whites per week so it isn't that big an issue. Can you tell that I am justifying my actions and that I feel bad about it?

Cold water washer here. I sometimes wash sheets in hot if we have been sick. Everything is always clean here.
