I've had a pantry in the basement since we moved here so I've stockpiled items. I buy items we will use on sale so I rarely pay full price for things we use regularly. I am going to take money from the rebate check and stockup on items at Aldi's since I'm running low on some of those items.

I always keep enough food on hand for emergency's for a month. I always keep extra cake mixes, pudding, jello and canned goods. We always have unexpected company at any given time, and I like to be able to throw together a simple meal including dessert.

But just going out and overbuying, just in case, I am not planning on doing that.

Living in FL and hurricane season, I like to have emergency food and supplies on hand for about a month...two at most. I don't plan on building a bigger stockpile. Although I do take advantage of BOGO's and end up with quite a bit of pasta, canned veg., spaghetti sauce this way.

I would love to stockpile gas though...any safe ideas? aarrrggg...I hate these prices...they keep going up and I feel like I'm shredding $70 every time I fill up. It is the most irritating thing to spend money on for me.

I have a moderate stockpile. The last few months, we have needed our cash for other priorities, so I have used some of the stockpile. I was able to make do with less than our budgeted grocery money. Now that we are over the first hump in our tight plan for the year, I have decided to spend every penny of the grocery budget each week. This week's necessities left me $10 left in the food budget, so I went back and bought some canned goods on sale and some extra flour for the stockpile. If I keep our necessities to a minimum, I can do more than replenish the stockpile; I can expand it.

I would love to get a stockpile going again. I did it a few years ago, but it was mainly to buy cheap in bulk but I had to throw a lot of items since they expired two years ago! My husband also likes us to keep on hand gallons of water, he always has his mind on anything bad happening, I think he watched too much Jericho last year

Many of you said you have about a month stocked away. Every time you go to the store, do you move the old to the front and the new to the back? I noticed someone mentioned putting the date in marker on the top of cans. I should start doing that on my meat that I freeze also.

Oh, how do I freeze fruits and veggies? Anyone have a great website that can help me out?

Thanks!

I plan on stockpiling, but I have always been one to have a stockpile of the items we use often. I find it helps with the buget to buy items when they are on sale, or in bulk.

I don't know. I'm still not sure what I will do. I like to have things on hand like pasta, rice, tomato soup, peanut butter, etc. But when I stockpile too much I feel like it's money sitting around while it could be paying down debt. The things that go up in price the most around here right now are bread, yogourt, & ice cream. Fruits, Veggies and meat don't seam to go up to much.

It may seem weird but having a big stockpile creates stress for me. I need to find a good balance.

I am a bit of a stockpiler anyway but I don't plan to make it any worse. I will just have to keep the faith that everything will be provided for no matter what.
