My older two are out for a few sports. I buy as much used items as possible and we do not make it to all of the away games because of the outlandish price of gas. The DD is in piano but we go to the cheapest teacher in town, only 8.00 compared to 10.00. I do not buy pool passes because we live right by a man-made swimming lake. Summer is as cheap as we can make it around here.

No - we haven't yet. DD will go to camp this summer (1 day per week). We didn't sign her up for a summer dance class, but she will take summer swimming lessons (we live on a lake, so this is really important). DS is just a baby, so he doesn't have any paid-for activities yet, just the ocassional baby playgroup.

I'm definitely rethinking all my summer activities due to gas prices. So far the kids are signed up for swimming lessons and a couple VBS's. The lessons are pretty close at a brand-new community pool so I'm excited about that. We'll also be doing play dates at the park with my MOPS group once a week. I may just do the parks that are close to home though. We'll see. We'll just go with my sister to her subdivision pool for recreational swimming for free. Its pretty close to home as well.

I didn't sign my oldest up for as many day camps as I usually do. We don't play any sports in the summer (too hot in GA) so that isn't an issue. I usually put my oldest in 4 or 5 week-long programs but this year my youngest is old enough to do day camp at his preschool, so they each get 2 weeks of camp and that is it. At $200 each per week, I can't justify any more than that. We have a high school senior that is training for the Olympics that teaches swimming lessons at our neighborhood pool and she charges $20 an hour (a very cheap price for around here) so we will probably do one swimming lesson a week to work on ds's strokes. He adores her so that will be something he can look forward to.

The thing that we will really cut back on is going up to my family's house in the mountains on the weekends. It is a 2.5 hour drive and we used to pop up there all the time. Now we will probably only go one weekend per month because the gas is so darn expensive. We used to go on Sat. mornings and spend one night just to get out of the city. Now we won't do that because $50 or $60 in gas isn't worth it to be there for a day and a half.

My youngest DS isn't signed up for anything, he will be 3 in June, so we usually use alot of our memberships to the zoo and museums. My DD's both swim and play soccer year round, so costs should stay the same for them.
