Reading is a favorite, and I always use the library or half.com. I often search via froogle to find the cheapest price if it's a book I want to purchase.
Scrapbooking is another favorite. I subscribe to Michael's and Hobby Lobby's mailing lists. I get an email from them each week with the weekly sales and usually a coupon for 40% off one item. I only by things I NEED, and usually only when they are 50% off, or if it's an expensive item that I really REALLY have to have, I use the 40% coupon, but that's rare. In fact, I haven't even scrapbooked in about a year.
Knitting is a new hobby of mine. I have found a free local knitting club and the ladies there have given me great sources for free online patterns (not that I know how to use a pattern yet, but someday...) and their advice is priceless.
Gardening (vegetables) is another hobby, but also a way of life. We save money by purchasing seeds and plants from local farmers. The wisdom that comes with the purchase is priceless, we have found.
Homesteading (raising our own foods, living simple) is another hobby and way of life. We save money on things by shopping around and bartering. We recently traded two bales of hay for two piglets. No kidding, we really did. LOL
Food preservation is another hobby/way of life. If we aren't growing the food we want to store, we try to barter our time on a farm for the item, or pick it ourselves for a cheaper price.
This is a great topic
