Everyone list your favorite hobbies and how you save money doing it.

I love to read. I always read them first from the library. If it's a book I really enjoyed and want to have I try and get it second hand. There is a used book store that will keep a list of people's wants, and I can buy it with store credit. Or I've found books at Half Price Books or on Ebay.

I like to read and I belong to 3 online book swap clubs. I just recently got my ds 2 really nice hardback books that are $27.99 in the store, and all I had to do was ship out a used paperback book to get them!!!

I'm really into genealogy- I use free sites on the computer, when he was alive my pappy was a great sorce of info (). Another thing that I found myself really enjoying lately is making my youngest a few things for her American girl dolls (which I am putting aside for Christmas presents!)- I've been making "foods" for her dolls out of fimo clay- which I get on sale or if they have a coupon for 50% off.

I also love reading - when I have time, I browse the big book stores and jot down titles to request on the libraries online catalog. If our library system doesn't have the item, they can request it interlibrary loan. I read fiction too quickly to buy them and on reference books I check them out first to make sure that I will use it!

Scrapbooking - I am on a mailing list for Archiver's and use their free cardstock coupons. I am currently using up supplies bought before we were frugal and have started making my pages more simple - letting the photos and journaling take center stage NOT the cool embellishments.

Reading is a favorite, and I always use the library or half.com. I often search via froogle to find the cheapest price if it's a book I want to purchase.

Scrapbooking is another favorite. I subscribe to Michael's and Hobby Lobby's mailing lists. I get an email from them each week with the weekly sales and usually a coupon for 40% off one item. I only by things I NEED, and usually only when they are 50% off, or if it's an expensive item that I really REALLY have to have, I use the 40% coupon, but that's rare. In fact, I haven't even scrapbooked in about a year.

Knitting is a new hobby of mine. I have found a free local knitting club and the ladies there have given me great sources for free online patterns (not that I know how to use a pattern yet, but someday...) and their advice is priceless.

Gardening (vegetables) is another hobby, but also a way of life. We save money by purchasing seeds and plants from local farmers. The wisdom that comes with the purchase is priceless, we have found.

Homesteading (raising our own foods, living simple) is another hobby and way of life. We save money on things by shopping around and bartering. We recently traded two bales of hay for two piglets. No kidding, we really did. LOL

Food preservation is another hobby/way of life. If we aren't growing the food we want to store, we try to barter our time on a farm for the item, or pick it ourselves for a cheaper price.

This is a great topic

I am a scrapbooker and a huge reader. I use coupons as much as possible to save money on scrapbooking items. I also ask for gift certificates for Christmas and my birthday.

For books, I either borrow or swap with friends, or go to the library. DH and DD both love books, too, so the library is our friend .

I LOVE making anything that has to do with Christmas! Especially ornaments and hand carved Santas.

Recently, I started making Christmas ornaments on "tree disks". Matter of fact, I just spent 3 hours this morning working on them. Tree disks are basically just branches cut into disks, dried, and then you draw/paint on them, drill a hole, and hang them up with gingham fabric...very rustic. Unfortunately, when I tried making my own, the bark fell off when the wood dried. I don't know what I did wrong. So, I resorted to buying them.

I wish I was good with a needle and thread because I saw the cutest Christmas quilt ornaments one woman made on HGTV. She'd take old, discarded quilts and salvage them to make Christmas ornaments and decorations. I loved the idea of her recycling these old quilts into beautiful works of art.
