I have been on my local freecycle board for about a month now. From what I can tell, each board has their own policies regarding offering and etiquete.

My question is: When you make an offer, do you respond to multiple emails regarding picking up of your item? I had emailed about an offer last night. I just checked my email and called the person to arrange pick up as her email asked and she said the items were already gone! I know not everyone picks up the items everytime, but I was a little dissapointed that she offered them to me as well as another person. If she had stated that in the email I wouldn't have been as dissapointed.

Is this normal for people to make multiple offers once they have gotten responses? I guess I won't get my hopes up next time.

TIA

I just freecycled a tramploine on Friday.

I respond to the 1st interested, and a short e-mail is sent to other's interested to inform them of their number in the line....then if that falls through, I go down the list....the item is marked pending until it is picked up.

I have had a few people tell me that I was next in line but never encountered someone actually saying that they were going to give me something and then give it away before I could respond. Not that I have gotten much....

I have been on freecycle for years and most people are much better at communication than to leave someone disappointed like that! I'm sorry that happened to you. I know that sometimes people get impatient and if they don't make solid plans with the taker right away they offer it to someone else who might be begging to come get it "right now". Usually they would call or e-mail and tell you what was going on first, though.
Don't get discouraged--that's not the norm and hopefully it won't happen to you again! Just remember who the person was and be careful in dealing with them in the future.

I don't have good luck with that site- although it works out good for a lot of people!- I find it to be more of a good way to get rid of things (and I pray that I don't get any mean people responding to my posts!).
