At first glance looking at that article I understand that we could wonder how could she not be able to get good food with essentially $340 a month. I mean I feed my family of four with about that much and I have dietary issues where I can't have dairy, red meat and other things (so there are a lot of soy products, chicken, fish, special products, etc.) But I live in the DC area. In South East DC there is one supermarket. If you don't have a car, you can't take advantage of going to Walmart or Target for cheaper groceries or possibly even another grocery store that is all the way across town. In fact around here the closest Super Walmart with a real grocery store is 20 + miles from DC. If you are forced to go to your local mom and pop grocery the price mark up on food is ridiculous. And as good as we are on this site about saving money on groceries, there are tons of people who just aren't as savy because no one has showed them how to be. So I guess I can see both sides.
