Do you spend more upfront for the more expensive brands and hope they last longer or do you buy cheaper items at Target, etc? Do you find good deals at Bed, Bath and Beyond with their coupons they mail out?

I only buy kitchenware when it's 75% off on a Target endcap. One exception is a stoneware set I paid full price at Walmart.

If it's something I will use all of the time, then I tend to spend a little more on it. Or if it's something that I go through a lot of I will find about the cheapest one possible.

You can find a good deal at places like Marshalls or TJ Maxx if you are flexible on what you want.

I got a really nice set of dishes for Christmas two years ago, but it was EXPENSIVE. My DH ordered it online and I got service for 12 -- total price about $210. (We always have friends over for dinner and there are at least 10 of us eating!!) When the box got here three of the coffee mugs and two of the bowls were broken. When I called to complain -- thinking they would send replacement pieces -- they gave me credit for one entire set of dishes (about $70) which made the set a more reasonable $140!! I would have been happy paying full price though because we use the dishes every day and I like having the set I wanted as opposed to the one that made more sense. I considered it a splurge but one that brought be daily pleasure for a longer period of time.

ITA with the Target 75% off deals! Although I have to admit that the Corelle dishes that we got when we first moved in together are still lasting very well (although I wish I went with a different pattern!).

I am still using our Corelle sets and silversets that we got as wedding gifts almost 17 yrs. ago. If I had to buy platesettings, I would actually look first at our thrift store uptown because they get in really nice sets all the time and they are at the most $5.00 for 8-10 place settings.

I have 2 sets, one really good one we paid a lot of $ for at Macy's. Another cheaper set at Kohls on sale (2 sets), this I use for bbq's instead of plastic, etc. I haven't used plastic in years. Truthfully, the more expensive set is so much better, stronger, quality you can feel. But the cheaper ones serve their purpose. I think I've saved $ over the years by not buying all that plastic "silverware". Same on dishes..a good set for dinners, etc., and a cheaper set for bbq's (I hate paper plates)....at the end of the party...it all goes in the dishwasher.

We have an expensive ($300) set of Calphalon pots and pans. We got it for our wedding, so we didn't pay for it, but we love it so much we bought it for my SIL for her wedding. We've had them almost five years and they're like new. I'm tired of peeling teflon and hard-to-clean pans. Mine are worth every penny.

We used 20% coupons at BBB for our new dishes. We got the cheapest un-ugly they had.
