When we bought our 2-story house, we were very fortunate that the previous owners had put in 2 AC units, one for upstairs and one for the downstairs. When we had the house inspection, the house inspector said that either one of the units would have been sufficient for the whole house. Neither one of the units has to work too hard to cool their designated areas and that keeps our electric bill relatively low. We have ceiling fans in our bedroom and guest room and playroom, but we plan on putting ceiling fans in the kids bedrooms to circulate the air upstairs. In florida with the high humidity, you need both AC and fans.
