Did anyone or their significant others ride their bikes to work today?

My oldest rode her bike to school today, and dh went on to work riding his bike. We are lucky where we live that their are bike trails throughout the city.

I ride my bike to work every day.

I don't own a car, and there's no public transportation, so I have no choice. lol

I had no idea there even was a National Ride Your Bike to Work day! It's too late now that I'm already at work. Does taking a train to work count?

I'd love to save money on fuel while riding my bike. Unfortunately we don't live in an area where there are sidewalks on busy roads. We also live in an area where there are alot of teenagers driving recklessly. Two young people just died last week drag racing on one of our main roads.

My cousin used to ride his bike everywhere, even when gas was cheap. He was killed about 5 years ago while riding his bike to work.

I think a priority should be to start providing a safe area where people can bike to work without being fearful of being killed. I imagine that some people live in areas where it is relatively safe to ride a bike to town.

I ride my bike to work every other day but today (it's in the shop). I didn't realize this was bike to work day though. Where I live (Victoria, BC) biking is a pretty typical thing. I won't say that the majority do (not even close), but probably more than most typical North American cities. Safety can always be improved, but we are lucky to have many miles of bike paths/trails here. I do have to do part of my commute on regular roads though. Some have a bike lane (really just the shoulder that they paint a white line and paint a bicycle symbol on), but many major roads don't.

I live about 20 miles from work and work midnights (when not on maternity leave....LOL) most of the trip would be on a major highway with no where but the lanes of traffic to ride in.........there is NO WAY that I would EVER ride my bike to work. Far too dangerous, and not worth saving a few bucks on gas, when my life would be in GREAT danger!
