Well it is raining AGAIN today, so hopefully we can go out of town & look at washers while my husband is not in the field... Thank you everyone for giving me ideas on what to look for!

Are you sure it died? Mine did the same thing once and it was just that the hose came loose.

I purchased a maytag Epicz in Feb and love it. The wash cycles are longer but because of the amount of water that is spun out of the clothes it actually takes less time to dry. I can wash huge loads of clothes, more than in my supercapacity top load washer. Stains have come out that I thought would never because with pretreating in my old washer they were still there. Also mine has a sanitary cycle and with 1 DD just getting done with potty training and another starting I love this cycle (although it is 3 hours long). Also our water and electricity bill went down even though we had a HE washer/dryer before this new one.

Well... the repairman finally came & it was a combination of things that was wrong... and yes some internal hose came loose & that's why it kept filling with water. So it's fixed for now but I am still going to look at new ones this weekend. Hopefully I can find a good deal & be able to sell my old one on my garage sale in a couple of weeks!

One more thing to consider - color costs more. I think they have some very pretty colors for the washers & dryers these days but I was not going to pay a couple hundred dollars more just to get a fancy color that no one would see anyway! So we stuck with white.

After doing all my laundry in my new LG steam washer & dryer (HE of course) I can say that I am very pleased with the results. I can't believe how little water the washer uses and the dryer is WAY faster than the one we were renting. I'm still trying to figure out all the settings but I love how I can adjust it so much for each load to get it just the way I want.

I have a GE king-size capacity (Energy Star) washer with a stainless steel tub that was purchased about 2 years ago. I know many financial planners advise you not to purchase the extended warranty on appliances, but I'm glad I did in this case. The transmission has been replaced in my machine. In this case, the warranty cost less than the service call would.
Other than that, I like the machine.
