I'm not a high tech or fancy person. My phone is simple. I don't download ring tones or use it as a camera or for internet purposes. However, my dh feels he NEEDS to have those features and will upgrade when something comes available at a more affordable price. We're the type of people that WAIT on the newest of technology. We give it a year to see how the consumer ratings go, watch the prices fall and then (if we do consider it) buy a year or even two later.

How do you justify "upgrading" your TVs, phones, audio equipment, entertainment purchases? Do you wait for these things to go on sale, or are you a "must have it now" kind of person?

We get stuff when the current stuff dies. I had a fancy phone, but it kept screwing up, so I went and got the el cheapo one. Our TV is just a plain ol' TV, it works, so why bother? My computer is about 5 years old, I just have it wiped out and restored with it gets to janky.

The "audio system" DH has is...I'm guessing...10 years old? It has a tape deck

We have a couple radios to take around if we are doing yardwork or something, and those have tape decks too. Only one has a CD player!

Not often like booker said whenever it dies. I dont even own a stero. The closest thing is noahs little cd player. which was 20 bucks. my phone was free with the contract and it sucks really bad but I wont pay 100-200 to get a new one. my tvs are normal tvs all a few years old at least.

I would be the one that would wait for the "new" items to be "old" items but dh on the other hand cannot stand to not have the newest and greatest! It drives me insane! Although I do have to say that he waits to get the ones that are on sale or maybe someone returned one and the package was opened so it was discounted. He is good on that account.

We don't buy the newest technology when it comes out. Most of our stuff is just the usual, nothing fancy. My computer is over 5 years old and it's getting pretty crappy so I'm going to buy a new one. It's the only thing that I'm willing to put money into. I use it a lot for my business, for my artwork & my schooling so I need something good, fast and reliable. I'm also a computer/techy nerd. And the only reason I'm buying a new one is because I'm getting a bonus cheque that I can use for it otherwise I'd use this one longer or buy something refurbished or whatever.

We don't upgrade unless something dies or an unbelievable clearance deal is found (75% off).

We would love to update to all the latests gizmos and gadgets out there, but we simply can't afford it and won't put ourselves further into debt to do it.

we do some of both. but do not usually buy it the minute it comes out.
When it comes time to upgrade our phones (we do it when the deal comes up that we dont pay for the new upgrade) we do.

baisically we will uprade if we are in the market for the item. it all really depends

Cell phones, tvs, speakers for the computer, and the like I don't upgrade until the previous one dies. All those weren't very expensive in the first place either.

But computers is a different story... My current computer isn't too bad. It's almost 4 years old, and with a good cleaning of the hard-drive it wouldn't be so bad. But I'm a graphic designer, I need a better computer, so this summer I'm buying a new one. I'm going to upgrade as much as possible so it remains a good computer for awhile. We're going to be keeping our older computer too, but moving it into our bedroom.

We wait until something dies or is no longer compatiable for most things. However, we did get ipods because they are so much simpler. We bought a shuffle for each of us and the girls have the disney ipods. So, we didn't go all out or anything. Our tv is ancient and the receiver for the speakers is the size of an 80s VCR!

I've decided that if I see a small record player at a yard sale, I'm getting it for my daughter. I think she would LOVE it. Remember those disney books that came with a record? I'm hoping to find them if I find a record player for her.
