DH has a Chevy 1500, and needs that for his sidework, and I have a small truck (Sonoma). I've had it listed for sale since October, and keep dropping the price as I pay on it. However, I don't plan on getting a car, will probably get a Blazer or something with the equivalent engine (4.3L V6) because I like to be able to pull the boat if I need to, and if that will be the vehicle we take to the cabin, I need 4WD and a fair bit of ground clearance. DH truck seats 3 (regular cab), my truck only seats 2 (small ext cab with center console). I'd like more room.
Lucky for us, Blazers and other small SUV's are pretty cheap, since folks are trying to get rid of them for cars.

We have 4 kids so getting rid of the van is not an option. That said it doesn't get too bad fuel mileage, 25 mpg highway, and I only drive it once-twice a week because I walk everywhere so the gas prices haven't hit us that hard. The last time I filled it up was 2-3 weeks ago and I still have another week's worth of gas in it.

Ours is paid for so there is no way we are trading it in.

We actually want to trade our car for a mini-van. We probably won't be doing this until next year, though.

Gosh, I never thought of a mini-van as a big gas guzzler!!! We have to have that!!!
I was thinking of things like Suburbans, Tahoes, etc.

We have 4 kids, so we need our Odyssey to haul all of us around right now. Plus, we just paid it off with the stimulus payment.
DH has a smaller Lincoln LS sedan. It only seats 5, so we can't take our whole family. It actually gets the same gas mileage as my Odyssey. I'm working on getting that paid off too.
I told DH that our next family vehicle will be a hybrid. I'd like to wait though as I'd rather have no car payments for now.
A cog in the wheel though... DS1 is 16 and has only one more driving lesson before he gets his Driver's License. Having his own car would help quite a bit in the mornings during school.
*IF* we end up getting another car for him (and it's a big IF), I'm so torn between buying something small for the gas mileage and a bigger vehicle for the safety.... Of course, we could let him have the Lincoln and get DH a small hybrid??????

We just traded our gas guzzler of a Jeep Grand Cherokee for a 2008 Dodge Avenger. We had to take a hit on our SUV. But dh sat down and figured our how much on average we would be spending on gas at the current price and how long it would take us to make up the difference we would be losing by trading our gas guzzler. It will take us about a year and a half (maybe 2 depending on gas prices/how much we drive) and that is if dh doesn't drive it to work at all. So we took the hit.
I love our new car but it is something to get used to. I loved sitting up high in my SUV. Oh well, I only had an SUV for two years and the rest of the time a car. So I will get used to it.
By the way, we did have one car lot that refused to take our SUV!

Yeah, that's how I was thinking before this thread.
Well, in our case, I guess I won't consider my mini-van as a gas guzzler as DH's sedan gets the same gas mileage!!

We have a Chevy Avalanche and we pay almost $90 to fill 'er up. My van isn't too shabby. I pay about $50, and it gets me through the town ok. We're saving a little more, especially since the kids are off from school and stuff. We're not planning on trading...I figure it will just cost more on the long run.
