We have a minivan and it's paid for.... so no, I wouldn't trade it in. The gas mileage is around 25 mpg which I don't think is too bad. Dh has a lighter SUV (Chevy Trailblazer) which we don't intend on trading in either. We like having the 4 wheel drive option in the winter here in MN.

We never actually had a SUV and are so thankful! We talked about it and were tempted once or twice but we never broke down and bought one. And I am so thankful! We watch my brother's family of three with a huge SUV (that is very nice), and two full sized pickups and gas prices are really hurting them. It hasn't been that case for us. We have our Honda - which isn't much but dang that car has saved us more than once and it runs like a Honda. And we have our Subaru Outback. Not big but decent on gas nothing handles better on our winter roads. Not to mention my husband has been biking to work about 75% of the time and I've been walking a bit with the kids.

It will be interesting to see the next automobile that we purchase will be.

We have three kids but it always seems like I am carrying one or two of their friends or cousins around so my Odyssey is essential as it carries 8 people. It also gets GREAT gas mileage (IMO) at 27 or so mpg on the highway and roughly 22 mpg around town. (I do ALOT of highway driving to get too and from work.)

DH drives a full sized truck and it gets crummy gas mileage. He drives about 350 miles per week and it takes one tankfull at $100 to fill it up and drive. He mostly goes on the highway driving too and from work. (60 miles a day) He wants a new car and we are looking at a small SUV it will get nearly double the mpg that his truck gets.

We have a 2003 Expedition which is completely paid for. I only fill it up 1-2 times a month, so it would be more expensive to trade it in. We don't want to buy a new car anytime soon until we see how everything shakes out — new car models, any new fuel options, etc.

I love my van and it gets good gas for a van. With four car seats, I see us having it for a long time. My dh has a gas guzzler car that eats premium gas, we looked into trading his in for a hybrid-but he owes too much on it and we would have taken a huge loss to do that so we aren't. He gets paid mileage from his company so it wasn't worth it for us to lose 5-7K. In the future, after it's paid off we will sell it privately and get a hybrid.

I drive a 2007 Escalade that I love, its paid for, gas mileage isn't awful but not great either. I wouldn't have anything smaller, I do not have to drive much and only fill up 1 or 2 times a month.

Our 2000 expedition is paid for, but we have no intention of trading it in (even at 12.8 mpg). We will need to buy a new car soon to replace the convertible DH is driving now, but won't trade that either.

The SUV for us is our family car (as the convertible can't seat 6) and any commuter we buy for DH won't be able to either. Also living in a farm setting we use it too often for so many other things.

I was talking to my husband about how we could just have a car when my son moves out, but he told me that it is not the size of the car, but of the engine, and that our minivan got decent gas mileage. Yeah! I love having a minivan. I have 3 teens(or near teens) and one carseat, and even after he is gone, it would be a squeeze in the backseat of a car.
Now his gas guzzling F-250 has to go. We are just trying to find something smaller that he can afford. He needs a truck for work, and the currrent truck is pretty old, we would get more from the scrapyard than selling it.

I have a 2005 Acura MDX and I can get maybe around 22 MPG. We don't plan on selling this, we may get a mini-van which probably would be around the same average. With 3 boys under the age of 6 we need something big. We travel quite a bit, so we need good size luggage space too. I don't think we'll be getting rid of this for anything smaller in the near future.
