It's that time of year again. I don't mind the heat or the humidity but I can't sleep when it's hot. Instead of running the central air / air conditioning all night, we turn it off and all sleep in the basement. (Our basement is finished). It's so nice an cool down there and we save lots of money off the power bill.

Anyone else sleep in the basement in the summer months to keep the energy costs down?

I wish I had a basement, cause I know I would be sleeping down there if it was cooler!

That's great that you're able to do that. We don't have a basement here either.

We do the same thing. Sometimes you just have to. Our bedrooms are on the very top floor so it's extra hot up there. It's ridiculous.

We don't sleep in the basement, but we watch tv down there. Last night it was 72 degrees in the basement and 82 degrees upstairs. (It was over 90 degrees outside!!) My office is down there so it stays cooler during the summer and warmer in the winter!!

Our basement has two bedrooms and our main floor has one, so half of us sleep in the basement year round. So far we have been lucky and haven't had to turn the a/c on. It's been nice.
