Have you ever gone to an air conditioned place to avoid turning on the air in your own home?

I have to admit we have gone to the library in the past to play and read to avoid turning on the central air.

Well I know that I will go somewhere to get out of the house and I consider if its airconditioned or not in the summer. I would rather go hang out at the mall play area than the park on those REALLY hot days.

I don't turn on the air much in my house either way. Other people complain when they come to my house that its hot, but it doesn't really bother me.

Once open windows and ceiling fans no longer work I always resign to turning on the air. I do however, keep the temp fairly high by some people's standards. It is set for 76 over night--79 during the day if we are away and 76 again when we come back. I believe a programable thermostat is a wonderful investment. I have no idea how some of my friends afford to keep their homes at 70 degrees all the time. Half the time I have to take a sweater over to their homes because I get chilly after coming in from outside.

I didn't turn our air on until June 1st...we have a lot of allergy and asthma problems that the humidity and heat aggravate...but this year I have slowly moved the temp up a point every few days until I now have it to 73...which is good since last year my dh kept it at 68!! UUUGGHHH the bill was ridiculous..so this year I am in CHARGE of the thermostat!!

Last week the boys and I walked to the store to see my sister in law and we hung out for a LONG time. It was so nice and air conditioned all I could think of was walking all the way home in the humidity to a sticky humid house, lol.

Here, in my area of Texas, you can NOT live without AC. It's just not possible. As hot and humid as it gets, your house could easily be in the high 80's to low 90's without it, and i REFUSE to live like that. We've had ours on since March. No way around it. But we are finding that our room stays cooler than the living area, so we have decided to try sleeping at 75, instead of our normal 72, and we seem to be adjusting well enough to leave it there. It goes up to 78 during the day when no one's home.
Only bad news is that i KNOW this bill is going to be outrageous since it runs most of the time to keep up. A few weeks ago, our AC's compressor went out, so DH replaced it with an old one he had in his shop, to make do while he bought a new AC. We have had the new one for two weeks, but DH hasn't had time to put it in yet. Luckily enough for us though, DH is an AC technician/installer, so he does that kind of thing for us at cost, instead of us having to spend 300% more for someone else to come do it. Whew!

Here in Mississippi, where the humidity levels can be at 100%, it is unrealistic to live without the ac. When I am home during the day I keep it on 77 or 78. That feels great to me, I am cold natured. When DH gets home he usually turns it down to 76. One day last week we turned to ac off since we knew we would be gone all day. We opened up all the windows and had the fans going, but it was still 84 when we got home that night.

we have not turned ours on yet there were a couple days the kids and dh were complaining so we watched a movie and pointed several fans at the couch they toughed it out... i'm holding off as long as possible.

the only problem with us not turning it on is the upstairs gets so hot its almost impossible to get it cooled down so the kids are now camping out on the main level(wich they think is a blast). they will be there until there is a big cool down and the humidity drops enough we can get the upstairs cooled down again.

we do not have air conditioners so if the basement is not cool enough then we will go( walking) to the library and stay there for awhile( its 3 blocks from us).

When i was a kid, we used to go to the movies for the a/c. That is the only reason I didn't walk out of the movie "Alien." I hated that movie.
