Here, in my area of Texas, you can NOT live without AC. It's just not possible. As hot and humid as it gets, your house could easily be in the high 80's to low 90's without it, and i REFUSE to live like that. We've had ours on since March. No way around it. But we are finding that our room stays cooler than the living area, so we have decided to try sleeping at 75, instead of our normal 72, and we seem to be adjusting well enough to leave it there. It goes up to 78 during the day when no one's home.
Only bad news is that i KNOW this bill is going to be outrageous since it runs most of the time to keep up. A few weeks ago, our AC's compressor went out, so DH replaced it with an old one he had in his shop, to make do while he bought a new AC. We have had the new one for two weeks, but DH hasn't had time to put it in yet. Luckily enough for us though, DH is an AC technician/installer, so he does that kind of thing for us at cost, instead of us having to spend 300% more for someone else to come do it. Whew!
