Okay, now that it is summer, the kiddos and I are frequenting the library again. I was searching for frugal living books today without too much luck. What are your favorite, most recommended books??

I haven't had luck finding frugal tip books at the library, either. I did find Tightwad Gazzette and Miserly Moms, but both of those pretty much had the same thing I've learned here. (Besides Tightwad Gazzette which had WAY more extreme frugal tips than I ever care to use, lol). Thanks for posting this, Happymom, I hope we get some good ideas!

Tightwad Gazette is a bit extreme for me. I enjoy Miserly Moms and anything by Mary Hunt.

Is there a particular book by Mary Hunt that you would recommend in particular?

Frugal for dummies is a great book---I have read quite a few good books on the subject--just type in frugal or simple living or cheap in the search and see what you find--you will be pleased. I also suggest books by Clark Howard and Dave Ramsey--good luck

She has a book that is just tips on saving money on everyday things. Some of the tips are her own, and others come from people who belong to her website.
I don't recommend the book by her about saving money in the kitchen. It's more for people who cook gourmet food only. Joni McCoy (she wrote Miserly Moms) has a book out about saving money on groceries and I found it very helpful. It has basic recipes as well for things like chocolate sauce, white sauce, etc.

The Complete Tightwad Gazette is a great reference source. TONS of information. Because the financial situation of every reader varies, some of the information may seem too extreme for some but perfectly logical for others. It's good to have the information out there if anyone is in a critical situation. That said, it's worth reading just to learn the philosophy behind it, and imo, for the recipes and numerous helpful, practical, and easy tips.

Note that there is an abundance of the same type of information available for free on websites, blogs, and other internet forums. HTH.

I just started reading Debt Proof Living by Mary Hunt and am really enjoying it so far. I'm not sure if it would be labeled as frugal living, but so far has great suggestions on staying or getting debt free.

I've been inspired by "America's Cheapest Family" by the Economides. For cooking one of my favorite cookbooks is "Cheap, Fast, Good" by Mills and Ross. They share many prep tips as well as really good recipes. I still have so much to learn.
