I read that an "average" family with "average" laundry spends $85-$100 annually drying clothes with a dryer. I thought it would be more. Has anyone else heard any other figures?

I've been reading some of the other threads and some did say they were saving about $100 a month by not using the dryer. That's weird.

we have electric heat-
we use the dryer in the winter and keep the heat at 61-64 degrees the bill is about 200 bucks a month

in the summer i use the clothes line and the heat is off it is usually about 35 to 75 dollars (depending on how much it rains!)

That sounds low to me! I read in our local paper, where just UNPLUGING one tv set, could save $70 a year. And unpluging the computer could save $50.

I never knew that pluged in applicances that wasn't on, used electricy and therefore cost money! I thought if it was off it was off.

Who would have thought at 50 I would learn that !

I've been playing on this site, says it's less than $10 per month to run the dryer.

Our dryer died a few months ago and our electricity bill has been down $15-$20 a month since it happened. But we're a larger than average family, 6 people, and our dryer had one foot in the grave for a while before it finally kicked the bucket. I wonder if the monthly cost to run a new dryer would be less.

I read that you save about 75 cents per load that you do NOT dry. So it all depends how much you use it as to how much you save per month.
