There are many things I do to save money, but NEVER would I do this. People have started cleaning up their flood damaged homes and all their belongings are reduced to garbage sitting by the street waiting to be picked up. There are crazy people going through their belongings trying to scavage anything they can. This is dumpster diving to the extreme. These belongings were soaked in river water, diesel, gas, chemicals from factories downtown, and worst of all poo.

That is pretty extreme.

I would have no problem with saving any metal from the landfill. It can be recycled and is not porus so can not containimate anything else. I guess it depends on what people are salvaging

Wow that sounds a bit extreme.

It is not like the people who are throwing the stuff away are simply upgrading. It is tossed because it is not salvageable.

My hearts go out to all the people who are suffering through this though.

Some people will do anything for a freebie.

It is sad that they are desperate enough to do it.

When we had incredibly bad flooding here in NY in 2006, the same exact thing happened. There was an article in the local paper and on local tv stations reminding people NOT to do this since the stuff is contaminated.

I am so sorry for everyone affected by the floods. My prayers are with you! I just wish y'all could somehow distribute your water down our way in the southeast - we need it desperately. After it's decontaminated, of course.
