I have lots already- but it doesn't hurt-
one thing I am going to do is plan on stocking up on freezer bags for the garden bounty- I am going to freeze and dehydrate veggies-
make tomato sauce and the like so that I have it thru the year

This, I have already done! I have been keeping the shelves in my basement really stocked. I cannot stock too many frozens though since I only have a small freezer, but it is pretty loaded also.

Definitely county me in on this one. I am a newbie here but I really came here looking for something like this challenge. I have already started by clipping coupons (somehting I never did before) and taking advantage of sales and picking up bargains and using those coupons on top of the bargains. BTW - I am sure you all know that Kroger has their 10/$10 this week. I went and started my stock pile of frozen veggies last night there. I travel with my job so I don't have time to do the canning thing (wish I did). I would really like to have a garden and take advantage of it - just too time limited. Sometimes I am out of town for 2 weeks at a time so the veggies would either dry out on the vine or the insects would eat them or the weeds would take them over

Anyway thanks to you ladies, I am learning to clip and use the coupons and take advantage of the sales papers and the sales each week and to stock pile while doing it. Hope by teh end of July none of us can find another inch to put more food stuff

My freezer is packed now! Went today and bought 19 lbs ground chuck, 19 lbs country style ribs, 5 lbs brats. With the chicken, fish, venison and several pkgs of mystery meat I already had we're set for at least 3-4 months.

I'm in. So far, my freezer has a good stockpile of meat. At least as much as it can hold since I only have the one on my fridge. I need to work on getting more veggies. We're putting up tomatoes so that will help. I already did jams and jellies. I just need to do peaches. Plus I have blueberries and strawberries in the freezer.

Our stockpile is pretty well set, but we could use some more of the things we go through frequently.

A tip for those looking for a place to keep their stockpile: thrift stores that carry furniture often have discarded book shelves for next to nothing (if you don't care much about appearance or condition). Or, store instead of storing infrequently used appliances and serving dishes in your kitchen, put them in storage and use the space for your stockpile.

When I started my stockpile- it began in those cupboards you have above your fridge (small area- yet it is never filled with anything but stuff you don't need!)! I bought our tall pantry from Target for $40 (I think they are around the same price!)- and that is where a bulk of our stockpile goes. If you have ANY space under a bed (or couch!)- get one of those under the bed storage boxes- you can fit a bit in those boxes. In your closet- I am sure there can be space made for a cardboard box that you can put extra in until you have space.

I hope that helps!
I do the same thing! I use the high spaces to stock up and I also have a pantry from Target! They are great, don't take up alot of room, but hold alot. I am def. in on this!

I have already been doing this. I went WAY over last months grocery budget, but the meat sales were SO good with the holiday coming I HAD to do it! Now I'm just keeping up on sales and I just keep adding to my stock pile. The one think I try to keep on hand mostly is cereal, bread, and condiments.

I keep my extra stuff in my basement. I inherited the giant freezer when my grandparents died, it was the only thing that I wanted when they died and we cleaned out thier house. It has been such a lifesaver! I also have a small shelving unit/hand truck that the former owner left, I put it to good use to organize my 'stuff'.

Dh is leaving for another month so that is one less mouth to feed around here. when he goes out, his company gives him a food budget so he doesn't have to buy out of pocket. that helps too.

Wow! you ladies are surely on to a great idea - I see each week the prices rocketing over this side of the pond, I have changed my shopping habit to
a) alone without distracting kids
b) looking through the special offers before I put any thing in my shopping cart.but then
I have removed all my kitchen equipment for my kitchen cupboards on the walls (we have a dog, so no temptation in the bottom ones) and now store them in the laundry room on a couple of shelves. This leaves me plenty of room to stock up! I also bulk cook - for me (and any friends willing to pay,) which gets rid of a lot of stuff in one go. I currently have a pound of kidney beans soaking, ground beef is 50pence a pound at one store this week - chilli anyone? I already have nearly one week's worth of meatballs, ahh but then, I digress. I store rice and dry goods in large airtight, plastic boxes, and only buy them on sale. Cooking oil seems to have crept up recently, so I will be looking out!!
