No, we would all cope. We never had cable until I was a SAHM, was tired of watching Judge Judy at nap time, and wanted to find appropriate educational shows for ds. We only had 3 fuzzy channels We were fine before cable, we just used netflix.
Now we have basic cable that costs us $17/month, just the networks, syndicate and pbs stations, none of the "real" cable channels. We still do netflix for to watch cable series and movies. Considering that we don't go to the movies or rent at a shop, I think $37/month is a pretty good deal for our entertainment costs. We still use rabbit ears in our bedroom, we mostly use that TV for videos for ds when he doesn't feel well.

My dh is the one resisting me. I would like to get rid of cable but he tells me, I get rid of my high speed internet and he'll get rid of cable.

We got rid of it in January and don't miss it. We have netflix and library movies, so we're good!

My husband would be the one to object the most. My kids like Noggin, but would watch DVD's or videos during TV time without being upset if there was no satellite.

I MOST tv we watch is 2 hours a day but all the shows are on cable--so it stays.

We cancelled cable about 4 years ago. Well we dropped from extended basis ($60/month) to just regular basic ($9/month). We made the change because DD1 and DD2 were developing some attitudes and phrases we weren't very fond of "she thinks she's all that but really she's nothing" comes to mind. There are some good kids shows on PBS and we hit the library a lot. Movies are free for a week and if you want a new release you get on the waiting list and it's only $1 for the week (much better than blockbuster/netflix/etc.). If there is a Disney special on they go to my parents house. They spent the night there last week to watch Camp Rock and DH and I had quiet time after DS went to bed. I do miss CMT, HGTV, DIY and Food Network but I get a lot more work done now. The part that really got me was that I had to pay $50 to disconnect it!

Wouldn't be missed here as we don't have it, we have an antenna, so we only get about 5 different channels.

We only have a really good tall outside antenna, and I find a lot of shows on the internet at abc.com. The reception is as good as cable. We do not have cable, and I am glad they seem to really vegg out when we go where they have cable. Also the programs are really not profitable for much. I love that they go and really play outside, go ride bikes, or go fishing.
Country living..!!!

Agree, agree, agree!!! Love TV, love cable, love DVR, love Noggin for DD.... Definitely something that we are willing to put out the money for.
