We get a zoo membership every year and try to go at least every 6 - 8 weeks. A zoo membership may not seem frugal but with 6 of us it pays for itself in 2 visits . We pack a lunch and drinks and make a day out of it.

What is your family's favorite frugal activity?

We do lots of free things.

Bike riding. Our kids are old enough that we can go on long bike rides through some conservation land we have nearby and have a picnic lunch near the lake and then ride back. They love it and are always asking when we can go.

Or we go hiking or to a local lake for the day. Or down to the fields at the middle school and play, we bring stuff for baseball, soccer balls, etc. And throughout the summer and early fall(sept/oct) our town holds weekly concerts on the common. We pack dinner and lay out a blanket and listen and dance to the music.

We did all except bike riding since they were infants.

we have a couple.
1. we pick a park(preferably one with a splash pad) pack a lunch and frisbees let them run thru the splash pad then eat lunch then play frisbee golf the kids are really into that right now.

2. we walk down the street and go fishing at our small dam they have a blast and its close to home and free.

3. we also go on walking trails and hunt for feathers and take pics of birds and anything interesting we see. my oldest son is really into nature and photography.

We are lucky in that we have a free wading pool with a waterfall, slides, and, some sprinkler areas for young children in the community.

Our local library has something going for kids 4 days of the week (singers, games, movies, etc)

We have a free zoo about half an hour from us. At the zoo there is also a nice park (with picnic areas) and a beach that is very shallow and perfect for the kids to swim. We go here every other week and take neighbor kids, too. LOL.

A movie theater 30 miles from us has free movies for kids on Wednesdays and Thursdays and we go watch them every few weeks.

We also go on some of the hiking paths, scavenger hunts, and, make grocery shopping an "activity"....
