I love Target, but it is pretty far from my house. I go to Wal-Mart (the one I shop at is new, and quite clean), and I think it's cheaper.

i happen to go to walmart more than target(i spend way to much there lol) it depends on what you are getting like luvs diapers are cheaper at target but tp is cheaper at walmart.. it honestly would depend on what you are getting.. as for groceries super target has a much more limited selection as far as brands if your looking for something specific.

Overall, I've found that Wal-Mart's prices are cheaper than Target's.

I actually printed out a sheet of our most often purchased items (snack & sandwich bags, aluminum foil, pull ups, paper towels, toilet paper, etc). And wrote down prices from both stores.
I found they are very comparable, and, within a few scents of each other on most items. Where there was a difference was for items that WalMart didn't manufacture to compete with a brand, but, Target did. For example, Target has its own version of the Magic Eraser. They are $2.79 for a 4-pack (3.29 real Magic Eraser). Wal-Mart has the real Magic Eraser 4 pack for $3.42. This is the same with several products that Wal-Mart doesn't make a generic equivalent of. I was surprised that Target seemed to have more generic versions of non-food items than Wal-Mart. I inventoried around 30 items, FYI.
Too much time on my hands, perhaps.... LOL

I don't have a Super Target either. I have noticed this. My Super Walmart never has good prices on produce. So I never buy it there. Well, I only shop for food their ocassionally. They have Country Fresh chip dip, which is the only chip dip my son likes. Meijers doesn't have it.
I am always saying I find better deals at Meijers. I need to take a pad of paper and an pen to both stores and really check it out.

I prefer Target. In the past I've done a worksheet as others have mentioned--Target's prices were one penny higher than Walmart's on everything on my list, except Biz ($1 cheaper at WM.) Need to redo this as prices have gone upupup recently.
So if Walmart is technically cheaper, why do I go to Target? It's closer--gas saved overrides cheaper product prices. Also, Target runs sales and has deeper clearance prices, when you can find them, making it cheaper in the long run IMO.
We have a Super Target the next town over, but most grocery prices seem high to me, especially on produce.
I love Walmart for baby and kid basic clothing (the Faded Glory brand, though they may have replaced it with Grranimals)--super soft cotton that lasts forever. Target's Circo basics tend to get tight and stiff after washing, and wear faster, in my experience.

Ah yes, the Wal-Mart-Target debate :-)
The biggest thing to consider is: What are you buying?
For example, our children needed to be formula fed and the Wal-Mart's Parent's Choice formula was far superior to the Target brand and the Wal-Mart kitty litter was much better than the Target brand. However, there are things at Target we couldn't get a Wal-Mart such as Avent bottles and generic Robeez. And DH loves Target's Con Queso dip!

We don't have a super Target- but I must say that Walmart tends to be cheaper- by a few cents. But in Targets defense, they do offer more generic (that is a great generic IMHO!), have better sales (honestly our Walmart does not have sales!) and you can not beat Targets clearance (who also typically clearance all things- Walmart on the other had does not!). So I do mainly grocery shopping at Walmart and everything else is Target!

I prefer Target, mainly because our Walmart is so overcrowded and messy, and too few open checkout lanes. It's like a zoo in there. Since our kids are grown, there really isn't much financial gain by going to Walmart over Target, not enough to put up with the atmosphere. I've also scored so many fantastic clearance deals at Target, that the trips there instead of to Walmart have paid for themselves time and time again.
