After paying $5 for a bag potatoes I'm starting to freak out. I'm now realizing that I'm gonna have to make it to the farmers market for produce. Does anyone have any idea if you can freeze potatoes or do anything with them to make them last longer? I don't know anything about canning, so forgive me if I sound dumb.

Also, does anyone freeze potatoe chips? I have one co-worker that says she does, but you don't hear a lot of people doing it.

Don't freeze raw potatoes but you can freeze mashed potatoes. As for potato chips ... I'm sure you can freeze those. You can always take out a small bag and put them in the freezer overnight and see how they turn out.

I freeze all sorts of things.

I've heard you can freeze them, but I've never had luck - I think it makes a difference what kind of potato it is. I usually dehydrate mine.

I'm pretty sure potato chips are too dry to freeze.

even if you were to make mashed potatoes out of them and then freeze them you would still get plenty of uses from them. You could use them for potato salad, on top of casseroles, as regular mashed potatoes etc.

My only suggestion is that if you freeze mashed potatoes, do it before adding things like butter and milk. They tend to make the mixture runny when you thaw out and recook the potatoes. Just cook the potatoes, mash, and freeze.

I know that you can freeze the potato wedges that go in the oven. I buy them at the store when I am lazy and don't want to make my own. I think they were precooked before they were frozen but not cooked all the way so you finish crisping them when you make them yourself.

I Put My Potatoes In The Bottom Drawer Of My Frig. They Seem To Last Longer That Way. I've Been Told That You Can Only Freeze Mashed Pots Because They Will Turn Black In The Freezer. Never Tried It Though. Good Luck. You Could Always Make A Big Pot Of Potato Soup. Yum, Yum.

You can freeze potato, but they need to be partially cooked first. Fanastic for roast potatos, or mash potato, wedges. They will turn black if frozen raw.
