I'm 8 wks pregnant, and I'm a complete slug who turns green upon entering the kitchen. I have gone from cooking every meal from scratch to this:

Monday - Frozen skillet meal
Tuesday - Dominos Pizza ($5.99 large)
Wednesday - Something from freezer (woohoo!)
Thursday - Take out

Even lunch is torture. Today I took my son to Chick Fil A, which is usually a very rare treat.

Tell me I'm not the only one who blows the grocery budget during pregnancy. In my last 2 pg, I did a ton of OAMC meals in preparation for the baby, so hopefully I'll sorta make up for my laziness come the 2nd and 3rd trimesters.

(Disclaimer: I feel incredibly blessed to even be pg, so I hope this doesn't come across as a pity post. Just trying to remind myself that this is temporary and that I should not feel guilty for overspending. )

Don't feel guilty! I'm the same way. I'm 7 months pregnant right now and I think we have spent more on groceries these last 7 months than the previous year. It's just that nothing but specific things sound good and most things made me so sick the first trimester anyway! Just re-arrange your budget to accommodate the higher food bills!

I did this with my last pregnancy -- just couldn't bring myself to cook. Sometimes you do what you can do!

I'll just say I'm 31 weeks along and my grocery budget has had to increase by about $75-$100 a month now because of how much I'm eating. I eat healthy still, but I'm eating so much it's ridiculous.

I was the same way. I got really sick and just the smell of food in the house made me gag so we ate out a lot during my pregnancies. I also craved foods I hardly ever eat, like hamburgers, fried foods, steak, taco bell (that was a weird craving!).

When my sister was pregnant with each of her kids, she pretty much at Taco Bell at least 3 times a week - and had "other" mexican type food 2 more times a week. It was a family joke. She rarely eats Taco Bell when not pregnant.

I had to have WAY more "snacky" stuff than normal - not bad, but had tons of fruit and cheese in the fridge.

All of your posts crack me up for some reason. The idea of eating taco bell every other night is hysterical and makes me feel infinitely better.

I love the idea of Subway b/c it's healthy and relatively inexpensive. Good thinking! And I like the idea of finding healthy snacks to keep in the house, b/c I do need to eat frequently to avoid severe nausea. I've been eating peaches like there's no tomorrow. Same with plain bagels (not so healthy). I'll make sure to buy a block of cheese to make up for the 250 empty calories in the bagel, lol.

Dang, you still feel sick at 30 weeks? I'm so sorry!

I was sick my whole pregnancy (hypermerensis), not to mention a bunch of other issues (like appendicitis at 6 months!), so I just ate what I could, when I could. If I could cook, I did. If I couldn't stand it, I made DH do it, or I just ate random things.

You like peaches - I went through a 10lb bag of oranges a week - or more. Thank goodness Navels were in season!

The way I figure, if you can find enough "healthy" things to eat - fruits, veggies, non-processed foods, just eat at will. Yes, fruits and veg fresh cost more, but they are good for you and baby (cept maybe some of the high sugar fruits of you have the diabetes).

Cheese was also a big hit with me. I'd eat about two of those big blocks a week, or more. Heck, some days, all I could eat was oranges and cheese - and that's what I ate!

My sister - the Taco Bell one - also ate one of those gigantic jars of black olives a month - like 500 olives. Pleah!

I do admit a fondness for McD's fries though when I was preg. Must be some sort of fast food junkie gene kicks in during pregnancy in my family!

Like stacia said - work your food budget around what you eat. It's more important to eat what you can right now. Sure, try to make good choices, but if you can't eat it, it does no good.

And peaches are in season or close to now right? Wooo!
