It has amazing deals, yes. GREAT clearance, yes. How much Target stuff is in your house? How much time do you spend going there, shopping there, organizing and storing your stuff, making returns, searching for stuff that you know you bought but can't find now, going to more than one Target to great deals?
My bedroom closet is stuffed with Target clearance toys I've bought ahead for birthdays, gifts, etc. It makes me sick. For dd's birthday next month, I am going to send my relatives shopping in my closet! I mean that.
I want my life back from Target. I want my time back. I want my space back.
I think of all the other stuff I could be doing... quilting, scrapbooking, reading, heck- hanging out with dh more- if I stopped running off to Target all the time.
I'm not spending huge amounts there. For me it is not a budget thing. It's about wanting to take back my time.
What is wrong with us? Why are we so addicted?

Money curbs my urges, I hate to see it go but it is fun isn't it. Make yourself limit either time or money wise and try to stick to it. When you can't control yourself go to the library, for coffee, clean your car out, or something else. Maybe organize a yard sale.:D

BTW nothing is wrong, just imbalanced. If you can't control it just ignore it like a real addict.

Quitting cold turkey... an interesting thought.
I know I am "unbalanced" in this area... it's a store that is close to my house and very kid-friendly. The kids love to run up and down the toy aisles, which are nice and wide, unlike other stores; it's a place to go to get out of the house when it's so hot out and we've already been to the library twice that week (and it's not the pool or beach, which we practically live at); plus, my food allergic dd can always have an icee there- her one big treat, since she can never eat at most other places.
But still, going there would not even be so bad if I could keep away from the toys! I hardly even look at the other clearance anymore.

I always said we need a target support group!
I work right behind Target, so the need to go there is great, but I have worked on it, I dont drive by it, near it or even look in that direction, the color of the brick they use even makes me see those red stickers!
It is all about needs and wants, cut back to basics.

Is there a charity that you and the kids could volunteer at for the summer? Walk the dogs at a safe animal shelter or the humane society. Maybe bake some cookies and take them to an assisted living facility? What events does your commmunity have for kids this time of year?

I, too, just quit going there. I send hubby when we need things (like toothpaste, diapers, etc.) I save a ton that way, and I don't miss it.

my Target closed to make way for a super Target a year ago. so I didn't have a convient Target. It's blocks away. In the mean time a Walmart opened. since I don't like walmart it was easy to stay out of there. and I also have a Kmart. now I never brought much from Kmart b4, but while T was closed thats where I went. Kmart didn't have same appeal for me. well after not shopping for months at Target now that they are back I still don't go as often. sometimes I just forget to go, and I have to pass it daily. cold turkey is best!!!

I have 5 Targets within 30 minutes of my house, but the closest is a brand new Super Target. I go there because formula, diapers, vitamins, paper towels, razors, laundry detergent and often juice are all cheaper there. I don't go out of my way because it's across the street from Walmart and my grocery store so I would be right there any way. I don't go crazy at clearence time unless it's something I really need and will use. I did stock up on 4/$1 flip flops at the $1 spot the other day, I bought red, white and blue for a grand total of $.75. I told DH and he laughed and said he didn't know if we could afford that shouldn't I consult him on my large purchaes I go every other week unless something I need or want is on sale. The best thing is if I buy something and it goes on sale the next week , they give price adustments, which is wonderful.
