I have no idea what this is, but it seems like lots of people get it.

Thanks for any info!

Women, Infants, and Children.

A government program providing food for low income pregnant / nursing women, infants and children. It is a bit different from basic food stamps because it tells you exactly what you can buy. Usually milk, cheese, cereal, eggs, and juice. It also tells you exactly what days you can buy these items.

A great program because it does not allow for a lot of abuse but, from what I have see, requires a huge amount of paperwork.

I used to work for WIC. It is a great program, but like someone said, you can only buy certain foods, or if you have an infant you can buy baby formula. If you breastfeed, then you get more nutritious food for yourself. The great thing about WIC is that the guidelines are MUCH MUCH more generous than food stamps. If you have ever applied for food stamps, you know how the paperwork is for that. WIC is easier to get. Back a few years ago, when I was there, what each qualifying family member got for groceries amounted to approx. $50 worth.

The income guidelines are definitely more lenient than Food Stamps. When I was pregnant with my son and it was only DH and I in the household I qualified, even though we were both working full time. In fact, I only know of one person (her DH was an attorney) personally who didn't qualify for WIC!
