I posted earlier that I was buying a side of beef, and as a result, got a great deal on a freezer (Labor Day Sale at Home Depot ) . IT is a pretty big one, and I was wondering if anyone had a BIG freezer and if so, what all do you keep in it???Thanks.

I have two freezers, a medium sized chest one and an upright. In the upright I keep whole chickens and chicken breasts, venison, hamburger, beef and pork roasts, hot dogs, 5lb bags of flour, french fries, etc.

In the chest freezer I keep the overflow. I keep 25 lb bags of flour and any extra meats or frozen potatoes, etc. that I can't fit in the other one. The upright is in a more convenient place so I store things that I will be needing right away in it. Then the overflow goes in the other one and I move things from it to the upright as needed.

I've read that if you can't keep the freezer full it's a good idea to freeze water in milk jugs or 2 liter soda bottles and put in the freezer.

I only have a chest freezer. I would love to get a upright too. I have all sorts of things in my freezer.

5lb bags of flour
Sam's club size bags of french fries
I always have big bags of bnlss, sknlss chicken breasts
lots of frozen pizzas
Breakfast items
Meat
veggies
cheese

Just a lot of things. Anything that is either too big or overflow that wont fit into the kitchen fridge/freezer, goes in the chest freezer. I have it in the room that comes off the carport.

We never finish a full pack of sausages so lots of spares in the freezer!

I read somewhere that a freezer works better if it is full. So if you don't have it full of meat, etc. you should fill it with jugs of water to take up space and make it work more efficiently. Plus if your water goes out you could defrost the water and use it!
