Instead of throwing it out, how do you rescue and repurpose the things you have? Let's start a list! Here are a few ideas:
  • An old crib mattress can be stored underneath a twin bed and used for sleepovers when your child gets a little older
  • Wine bottles are attractive as vases and can be used in a garden (plant them upside down) as tealight holders - just put little tealight candles in the indented part in the bottom of the bottle
  • Glass jars can be used to store rice and beans
  • The Sunday comics can be saved and used as wrapping paper
  • Empty baby wipes containers can be used to store crayons or plastic bags (they pop up through the center)

Man! These are some great tips! You're awesome Kim!!

I do use the empty baby wipe containers to store puzzle pieces, blocks and other small toys. The plastic ice cream buckets work well for this also.

We save some of our newspapers to start fires in our fire pit. I know a lot of people also use them in the garden.

Anything in my house usually gets turned into one of dd's crafts! Old adult puzzles, she glues down the pieces

we use coffee cans as flower post, even vinegar bottles, if you cut off the top

there was an article in Parents mag, about an outgrown tank top that is turned into a neat carrying bag

I save an old toothbrush for scrubbing the grout in my bathroom tile, and I have another that I use instead of a bottle brush.

We reuse grocery sacks for our bathroom trash can.

I use old egg cartons to start seeds in the spring.

I save empty candle jars with lids (like the yankee ones) and use them to keep my seeds in. I have given some to DH for his nails and screws from his shop. I have also seen them used for decor - put a raffia bow around the neck and fill with multicolored buttons or potpourri, etc.

I always get the miniature yankee candles (again with lids) for gifts, and I clean them out really well and use them as cute little containers for my dried herbs. I printed out labels for them on my computer.

Dh took a iron headboard and made a frame and attached the headboard and
made a bench for my garden!

I took a wine bottle holder and put pretty towels in it for guest to use.

I take old jeans and make rag quilts out of them and also purses.

Old mirrors make great serving trays or put them on a table with candles for a great looking centerpiece.

I take old mason jars add colored rocks and that is what I put flowers in.

We don't throw away anything burnable. (Junk mail, boxes...) We instead burn them about once a week. I have not had to use my shredder in quite a while, and I know for SURE that noone can fill out any credit apps in my name, as I burn it all. Plus - it's a stress reliever for me.

Also, I reuse old dryer sheets to dust & clean off tv screens.
