I used to do the exact same thing!

I googled homemade Halloween costumes and found lots of cute ideas.
My girlfriend & I dressed up like old ladies in our junior year of high school. It was HYSTERICAL! We, too, took a trip to the thrift store and found the most hideous mu-mu dresses ever and these huge glasses.. We blew up balloons and gave ourselves huge racks too!

Both my dds wanted to m&m's this year. It's cold in Erie, PA, so i always try to have a warm costume for them to wear. I bought sweatsuits @ the trift store & then went to the craft store & bought white & black felt & cut the eyebrows, eyes, mouth & m's out of felt & hand sewed them on their costume. Then i bought white winter gloves on sale @ Kmart. Their costumes only cost me $13 for the both of them & they're super cute!

We did get a hand me down Thomas costume, that my mil had made for another grand child. I ended up buying the James train costume. The homemade one is so much nicer, I wish I had bought stuff to make one instead. So we are only HALF frugal this year.
