My dd will be 3 on Saturday. My oldest starting training just before he was three. I decided all right I am going to put some training pants on her today. She had a bath and we went upstairs to get her dressed. I told her you want to wear big girl pants? I put some on and even before I put on the plastic cover she says, I want diaper and started taking them off. She is so stubborn. She did go on the potty a couple of times but she is stubborn about the training underwear. To me it seems like they would be more comfortable than diapers. She is a very independent and strong willed child. I am thinking she wants to decide when to wear training underwear. What are your experiences. I wanted to start her on training, now I am back at square one.

My DDs are 3 and 4. When DD1 was 3 we tried several times to potty train her and she was over 3 1/2 when she finally decided she wanted to learn to use the potty.

Now DD2 is over 3 and 1/2 and has no desire whatsoever to learn. We've tried several different times and used different techniques. I think it partly is due to her wanting to have control over the situation and maybe since she is the youngest she wants to stay the baby.

My only advice is to wait until when they are ready. The more you push them, the more they fight it, no matter what the reward may be.

My ds is only 2 and half and we are having a heck of a time. I am starting to think that his unwillingness to poop on the potty is a power struggle. Sorry I have no sage advice, but I am glad I am not alone. It is very frustrating!

We are training our DD who is 3 now. We had tried unsuccessfully a few months ago. It seemed liked she was ready...she was interested and would sit on the potty and try to go. Then she lost interest. I think she didn't quite know when she had to go and got frustrated when she tried & nothing happened. Then one day after our new baby came home, she started wanting to use the potty. She wanted to be a big girl and said she wasn't a baby anymore. We took her lead. She is pretty much "pee" trained even at night. However, "poop" training has a ways to go.

We have been trying a few things to encourage her:

**We bought a few books where the character uses the potty & worked those into her reading time. Then we talk about her using the potty when we read them.

**We also created a sticker chart (just made a simple one on the computer with boxes) and got some fun Dora & Diego stickers. We told her if she filled the chart, she could earn a toy. When she would ask for something while at the store, we would tell her not today but that she could earn that for going potty.

**We also try to praise her. If I help her in the bathroom, then we go tell Daddy when she is done and everyone is all exited. If Grandma calls, we tell her how well she is doing using the potty. We try to make it something special going on with her especially since we have a new baby who gets a lot of the attention.

**We have let her use both pull ups and underware. She picks what she wants to put on each day (sometimes each hour). In the beginning she wanted the pull ups all the time, but now more and more she is picking the underware. We put the pull ups on at night too.

Good Luck! =)

It is good to know I am not alone in this. I guess I will encourage her but let her decide.
