I would talk to your ped first...you're probably better off trying it improve his eating habits than use a vitamin. A dose recommended for his age/weight probably won't hurt him but I would ask my doctor before putting my child on one. But that's me.

Most kids actually do get the proper amt of nutrients over the course of several days, even picky eaters. My kids do eat a pretty good diet with a variety of foods but I did ask about vitamins when they were small and our ped didn't recommend them for us.

No great advice here, just wanted to let you know i worried about my ds's eating habits at that age, he's a picky eater too. He's 15 yrs old now and 5'11, 155lbs. All without vitamins because no matter what kind i would buy he was way too picky to take them.

I think since the age of 4 I've been giving ds a basic complete multi-vitamin. I had thought about buying pediasure but they're expensive. I thought it was easier to try and get him to eat what he's not.

At 7 he still doesn't get what he should but I've been buying the walmart brand of fiber powder. I will mix it in his drinks or put it in whatever I making for dinner. You can put it in anything.

I talked our local pharmacist about this & she suggested that half of a flintstones-type of vitamin, either taken plain (just chewed like a candy) or crushed & hidden in a non-hot food (like PBJ sandwich) is fine for this age.

Our son eats almost no fruits or veggies (except when I sneak them into recipes) so I think a vitamin certainly is beneficial at this point. It doesn't mean we can stop offering healthier choices since we're "covered" by the vitamin, but at least you can be sure their immune system isn't going to be worthless b/c they don't eat fruits & veggies!

You could always check with your pediatrician, but half-as-much seems pretty standard when comparing dosages for toddlers vs. the 6-12 age range on other kinds of medicines, so I'm comfortable with our pharmacist's recommendation.

when i took him for his three year check-up she said he was fine and didnt need any vitamins....but he is so picky and i just was wondering....he is with his father during the day which i think he only gives him what my son will eat...fruit snacks, cereal, cheese sandwiches, not good stuff....then when he comes home its always im hungry, i say dinner will be ready soon, i want fruit snacks he says, i say no fruit snacks, its dinner time...then he says hes not hungry.....the only veggies he eats are corn and raw carrots....eats lots of fruit....loves noodles, any kind of pasta.....i just dont know if hes getting enough nutrients....what else do all of your kids eat on a regular basis???
thanks for all responses though.

My kids eat alot (all healthy) so they don't NEED vitamins but they LOVE gummivites, like a gummy bear. They beg for one everyday and if I forget they will remind me. So funny b/c my mom used to try to feed me the flinstones vit. when i was young and I hated them and snuck them into the trash. Gummivites are so good, I eat them too!
