Oh yes, 3s are definitely worse that twos!! My DS is not only throwing fits now, but he talks back a lot too which really gets under my skin! I can't stand the sassiness and the pointing of the finger thing. My DH doesn't help because he likes to antagonize. Ugh. I'm hoping 4 will be better?!?!

Wow, I can totally relate. My daughter is 3 (turns 4 at the end of January) and she has become so sassy and tantrum-prone. We use time outs as a way for her to cool down, but it's hard when a tantrum or outburst comes in the middle of a shopping trip. She is a big kid and often insists on being carried in stores. When I try to make her walk, there is a lot of screaming and crying. I've definitely had to leave stores because of her behavior! She seems to respond best to have priviledges taken away (tv time or computer time), but sometimes even that doesn't work! I agree though, 3 has been much bumpier than age 2.

The site preschoolrock.com has a parenting section that provides good info about time outs, tantrums and discipline.

Best of luck to all you mommies of 3 year olds!

I was just having this same conversation with another Mom from dd's preschool class. DD doesn't turn 3 until Jan., but she has started the same thing. I have even left a cart full of groceries at the cust servive counter while we went to sit in time out. She knows that we will be going back so Mommy can finish what she was doing after time out is over ( I think part of her problem is that she wants to leave and I'm not letting her win that one!)

So far time outs, limiting TV time and taking privilages &/or toys away is working. Boy, I never thought that a cookie from Publix could have so much power!!!!

Oh, this sounds SO familiar! My son turned 3 in September and are going through the same thing. In fact, I started a thread about it earlier. I found it for you - I titled it "Do Sweet Kids Turn Evil at Age Three?" Do sweet kids turn evil at age 3?
