DD is more than 2.5years and was so addicted to it - now she has started playing with it and throws it and then run and picks it up and puts it in her mouth. She developed a bad infection in her mouth with ulcers etc - so now we have decided to give up. I was not ready for her to give up her nap and earlier bed times, but now I have no choice. Last week, when we went to drop off a friend at the airport, we told that their kid took it and left.

Anyway, she wakes up in the night and cries for nearly 45 minutes and then goes to sleep. During the day, she asks for it too, but we blame the poor kid who left. How long will the rough nights last? Will she forget it at all?? I am planning to give it to her tonight if she wakes and cries and make it disappear before she wakes up- do you think this will work.

Earlier today she fell down and cut both upper and lower lip, so has gone to bed hungry.... If you are still reading this, thanks, just had to share.

To help her thru her lip discomfort try those frozen ice pops or popcycle. Something she can suck on that won't hurt her lips and will help keep her hydrated.

As for the pacifier, I am clueless there. I lucked out, my son started chewing on them when he was teething so by 10 months they were all "gone". He had his bear and blanket to comfort him so never missed the pacifier.

I say, try to stick it out. Otherwise you are giving her the ok to cry when she wants something and if she cries long enough she'll get it. I took my DD nuk away at 2 1/2 by taking her to Target to give it to another baby who needs it. We put it on the shelf and she got to pick up a new toy (reasonably priced). Dad went around the corner to get it when she wasn't looking. So at night for only 2 nights she asked for it we asked her "where did it go?" "At the store for baby." "What did you get?" "A teaset" "Should we take your teaset back?" "no" And she realized that was just the way it is. I know everyone is different, but it worked like a charm.

oh it is a hard battle. Dd that is now 4 still remembers her paci and we took it away when she was a little over 2. She only also had it at nap time it stayed in her crib/ and then in her bed.

We didn't take it away and say someone else took it we just cut a slit in it so it was broken.
Dd also started a diffrent habbit after it was taken away she started to twril her hair and would break it off on one side. We just delt wtih it and talked to her ped about it. I would have to say the hard part was over in about 2 weeks.
