When you take them shopping, how do you handle them having a tantrum in the store?

It's hard to judge what to do and I worry about what other people are thinking if I try to correct them. Tantrums don't happen very often so most of the time, I just leave the store until they calm down.

It is hard to know what to do sometimes. I just try to stay calm myself so they can be staring at my child but not see me going crazy. If a child is having a tantrum I can walk right by and just think to myself that it's normal and all parents with kids go through it. But I notice more and am bothered more when people are screaming at the child themselves, making more noise and more of a spectacle.

Full blown tantrums were either DS’s couldn’t pull themselves together within 5 minutes ALWAYS resulted in us leaving the store or mall. I would give them some regrouping time in the car and if it worked great then we’d go back in and finish up, if not then home we’d go.
Personally a little bit of kiddy freak-out in a store doesn't bother me at all and frankly it think it's normal on occassion. BUT I can't stand when parents ignore full blown freak-outs and force the rest of us to listen to it for long periods of time...

99% of the time I get out of the store immediately. Just once, we were at Target and she was continuously touching the egg cartons and I patted her hand and said, "no touch". The kid screamed her head off crying "Mama naughty, Mama naughty" - obviously we walked out, but was so embarrassing..

I walk out...period if my kids start in then they know their in trouble. This reminds me of a couple weeks ago i was in Walmart and some lady was yelling at her young kids using the F word and Yelling. It was bad enough some one called the cops on her! Thank goodness it was ridiculous!
