DD is about 26 mo. She says "potty" and points to it. She's interested in watching someone go potty and she puts her toys in it! When I ask her about it, she runs away and says "no,no,no". I don't think she's quite ready but I wonder what are some definate signs that she'd be ready to introduce?

How should I transition into that? Should I start with a potty chair or a potty seat on the "big potty"?

Thank you in advance!

My philosophy is when they show interest themselves or start to become aware of their body parts, then it's time to take the small steps towards potty training. My ds was 22 months when he first went pee on the potty. He wanted to, so we let him. I then had ds #2 shortly thereafter so the "training" went on the back burner. As ds got a little older he was more capable of understanding direction and praise and could manipulate his own clothing. When they can take their own pants off, or at least pull them down themselves, it's also a sign. You want to encourage the independence.

We also received as a gift Potty Elmo and that was fun for them to take it in with them when they went potty!

Good luck ~ it's a PROCESS....a long one!

I'd get a potty chair, all the little kids I know love to sit in a little chair. I'd see if the library has any training videos to rent and play those for her.
Good luck!

i am of the laid back approach to potty training. there are MANY out there who do not agree with my way, but it fits with my personality.

I just go with the flow. got the potty, got the books and the videos and popped them in and read them throughout the "2" year...and then just took a step back and said and did nothing. it really is true that they will do it when they want to.

and there was pressure! well not outright pressure, but whenyour friends all around you are actively potty training, you feel like you're not on the train. but i didnt care.....my daughter was the last one to be trained and you know what? i had the least stress. why?
because 2 of my friends "decided" that it was time for their kids to start training so they had the sticker charts, the timers and literally for almost a year, they battled with accidents, pooping in the pool and wet clothes - then they would scold their kids for having accidents. im not kidding - a full year of doing that! instead, my 2 yr old stayed in diapers until a month after she was 3. we had two bad snowstorms in a week and we happend to be snowed in for most of that week. my hub came home with a bag of m&m's as a treat and my daughter saw me put them up on the shelf...when she asked if she could have some, i, without thinking said "oh these are for when you go pee on the potty." little did i know that later that afternoon, she dropped her pants and just went without us knowing!

after a few days of being home and m&m's that was it! no yelling, no sticker charts, no stress. no we havent dealt with pooping yet, so im taking a laid back approach to that as well.

but thats me and thats my household - easy going. but it worked for me! good luck!
