i am of the laid back approach to potty training. there are MANY out there who do not agree with my way, but it fits with my personality.
I just go with the flow. got the potty, got the books and the videos and popped them in and read them throughout the "2" year...and then just took a step back and said and did nothing. it really is true that they will do it when they want to.
and there was pressure! well not outright pressure, but whenyour friends all around you are actively potty training, you feel like you're not on the train. but i didnt care.....my daughter was the last one to be trained and you know what? i had the least stress. why?
because 2 of my friends "decided" that it was time for their kids to start training so they had the sticker charts, the timers and literally for almost a year, they battled with accidents, pooping in the pool and wet clothes - then they would scold their kids for having accidents. im not kidding - a full year of doing that! instead, my 2 yr old stayed in diapers until a month after she was 3. we had two bad snowstorms in a week and we happend to be snowed in for most of that week. my hub came home with a bag of m&m's as a treat and my daughter saw me put them up on the shelf...when she asked if she could have some, i, without thinking said "oh these are for when you go pee on the potty." little did i know that later that afternoon, she dropped her pants and just went without us knowing!
after a few days of being home and m&m's that was it! no yelling, no sticker charts, no stress. no we havent dealt with pooping yet, so im taking a laid back approach to that as well.
but thats me and thats my household - easy going. but it worked for me! good luck!
