My son truly learned to write his name when he was 4 when I had him sign his own Valentine Day cards for his pre-school friends. He will get it I wouldn't worry about it!

My oldest could by the time she turned 4, my 2nd didn't catch on until almost 5. My 3rd turned 4 in Feb, and can write (ledgibly) the first two letters of her name and a few various other ABC's. I would say your son is pretty on par.

Our DD was about 3.5 when she started writing her name!!! LOL - we thought about that when we named her......Ava. Not much to learn. If we ever have another baby, it will be a short name also.

your on target my son did not really learn to write his name well until he was in kindergarten readiness at age 4. i had a hard time getting him to write the teacher there got him going and it did not take long. our pediatrican says kids are not truly cordinated enough until between the ages of 5-6 for pencils so really writing at 4 of any kind is a major accomplishment.. it just takes lots of practice.

My daughter just turned 4 and writes her name. However, I volunteered at preschool and most of the children do not. A lot of the children have trouble holding the pencil and tracing letters.
Sounds like your son is doing fine!

Sounds like he's doing just fine. Just give him a piece of paper & some fun pens or pencils & practice with him & he'll get it in no time!

I think he is fine...and I started researching this for you, and then got side tracked with the baby. There are some interesting articles on babycenter.com about this. I will email you the links/info.
