I baby-sit a little girl who is 4 years old. She is a bit delayed because of her medical problems. We are starting to potty train her, and it is not going well at all. She will NOT pee in the potty. She will sit on the potty, say potty, say pee pee, and all that. Her mother and I wonder if she recognizes when she has to go. I am at a loss as to what to do at this point. If anyone would have any suggestions, I will try anything. Thanks, Brandi

When the weather is warm. I would let her go with no pants. She will then be able to associate the feeling to having to go and actually going at that very moment. It was the ONLY thing that worked with my ds. I tried it all. Meesy but it worked.

i don't know if you are using pull ups or not but when your actually tring to teach her make sure that you don't use them.... they are too much like a diaper. Try to find the rubber diaper covers for when people use cloth diapers (sometimes you can find they at walmart)and put the rubber cover over a pair of big girl panties. this way she'll know exactly when she goes and she won't flood everywhere. Good Luck, my daughter was horrible to potty train.

I have a 4 yr old boy. He doesn't talk much at all, & isn't totally potty trained. So we went to the store & let him pick out his own "big boy underwear". He selected superman, spiderman, & batman. I told him " I am not buying anymore pull-ups, you are a big boy, & big boys wear underwear". I put a potty chair in our living room in case he couldn't get to the bathroom. I went to Babies R Us & bought a travel potty seat to take with us on the go. I constantly remind him to go to the potty. In the last 3 days - no accidents. I think he is starting to get it. You ought to have seen the look on his face when I told him I wasn't buying anymore pull-ups ! He was shocked. He relied on pull-ups, & wouldn't go potty. Pull-ups in my experience is a diaper. I am also potty training my 2 yr old daughter, & our new puppy ! Try putting a potty chair in the main room you stay in so you can watch her closer, no liquids before naps & bedtime. Praise her when she does go/or tries to go. When she wakes up from naps & in the mornings go straight to the potty. Hope some of this helps.

Control the liquids you give her. About 30 minutes ( or whenever you see a pattern for her need to tinkle) sit her on the potty. Give her a book with stickers to keep her there until she goes. MAke sure you dont let her see if you get frustrated with the situation. Be consistent. I also kept the potty in the room we were in. That made it so much easier. I also did not use the Pull ups. They do have underwear that are a little thicker. ( think they are called training pants...mine were made by Gerber) It may take extra time depending on her disability.
