So its that time of the month and I'm a witch. On top of that, I'm trying to potty train 2 yo. ds. The cool alerts aren't working and neither are other pullups. When I put underwear on him, he runs to the potty, but rarely makes it in time. If he has pullups on, he refuses to go to the potty. Only have 3 pr. of undies and have gone through them all today. Running around the house w/ cleaner and a rag!!! Don't ask. I saw a thread about potty training the 4 yo. and think I might get some rubber pants and some more undies this weekend. ARGH! LOL

IMO 2 is too young and your just asking for trouble. Boys tend to potty train a little older and it's ok to wait for them to be ready. If i were you i'd give him more time. It will save stress on you and him.

I read in a pullups guide that once you go to pullups from diapers, you shouldn't go back,as it will cause confusion. What do you think? Doesn't the fact that he runs to the potty w/ underwear indicate he knows when he has to go?

Well of course the pull ups company is going to say that. They don't want you to stop paying that outrageous price for pull ups. I do buy them but man it kills me sometimes. (only for bedtime now) My son has gone back and fourth and he never had a problem.

I think what you need to do is set your timer for every half hour to 45 minutes. Then take him in and sit him down to see if he has to go. Don't wait for him to tell you he has to go. Usually that will be too late. Sitting on the potty trying to go will show him that feeling of needing to go before he actually has the accident in his pants. Also when he does peepee really get excited and sometimes i would even give a m&m candy. My boys loved that.

i am potty training my now 3 year old ds. we tried at 2, but the kid jsut wasn't interested. he just doesn't care. but now we have like 9 pairs of underwear lol for him and i make him sit onthe potty every half an hour, we have jsut started to lay him down for his afternoon nap with a pullup on, and i have just started to take him uptown with underwear on, i make him go potty lots though. u just have to keep on him. my ds refuses to tell me when he has to pee 90% of the time, i have to guess so i just take him every half an hour. don't feel alone with your pms, i am right there with you! not the best time for potty training.

You are all so refreshing!! I am still trying to potty train ds who is 3. We started in November and we have a good week followed by a bad week. We have tried everything and I have decided to just leave him in pullups and when he is ready he will potty train and not take forever. I will tell you that dd was much easier to train!!

My DD was being stubborn at about 2 1/2 about potty training but would not stop talking about wanting to go to school. So I found a preschool that took 2 1/2 year olds and told her if she learned how to use the potty she could go. She was potty trained in 2 days and has only has a few accidents since then.

Don't rush your little one he will know when he is ready and you will too. Just stock up on Pull Ups and encourage him to try to use the potty when he feels the urge...sooner or later he will get it. From what I hear most boys are ready between 3-4 yrs old.

I had no idea potty training would be such a pain for moms! When I potty trained my ds, who is now 5, it look a solid week of encouraging him to drink lots, lots of trips to the potty, and tons of m&ms. I found that if I put the portable potty somewhere other than the bathroom, he was more likely to use it. I think he thought he would miss something by going to the bathroom! I just put one in the livingroom (not permanently!) and he did much better. For that week (btw, he was a couple months shy of 3) we stayed home and I offered lots of drinks. That way, he could get the feeling of having to pee, then the success of going, with the reward of m&ms (and he literally needed to go every 1/2 hour because he was drinking so much!). I also made a chart where he put a sticker up every time after several weeks of success, he was able to pick out a new Thomas train. My son loves charts, so it worked for us. It will get easier!
