Mt ds 3 is doing great with potty training. hardly an accident at all. BUT he will not poop in the potty. he will go and hide to poop in his pants and then comes adn tells me right after!! how can i get the kid to poop on the potty. he doesn't really respond well to praise, or treats. he just doesn't seemto give a damn about pooping in that darn potty, and it really grosses me out having to clean crap out of his underwear. its nasty :hurl: so please help me!!! i am getting desperate here!

I can't help with the pooping in the underwear thing, but I can tell you that my 3 1/2 year old, who has been peeing in the potty for a full year, still insists in pooping in a diaper. We don't have issues with him having poop accidents in his underwear - he's very particular about that - but he refuses to poop in the potty (he knows how - he's done it before). We have begged, pleaded, bribed - everything. He won't do it. My pediatrician has told us more than once not to push it that he'll do it when he's ready.

According to what I've read and friends I've talked with, it isn't unusual for kids to pick up pooping in the potty later than peeing so it's a common problem. If all else fails, you might try making him help you clean up the mess.

It took us 6 months to get my dd to poop in the potty, she was trained on day 1 for pee, but would beg for a diaper to poop in. She was scared it would hurt. I gave her some some and we would try again, then gave her more time....anyway to make a LONG story short, she was finally ready. We took the advice of another mommysavers and (it's kind of gross but worked) we talked about what shape her poop would be, example will it look like a turtle? She liked that and so problem solved.

Again, they will do it when they are ready......
BUT-For my daughter, it was about the potty seat. The first one we had she couldn't reach the floor with her feet(she is short). A friend suggested a shorter seat with handles-and it worked. We still have issues sometimes if she gets constipated, but then she will ask for a diaper. I much prefer that to the undies.
Also-from all my friends who have boys, they say boys are harder and longer to train

So good luck. I understand how frustrating-and gross it can be. Remember this too will pass.

what worked for us was if she pooped in her undies she had to take them off and put the poop in the potty (we would always tell her when she did it that poop belongs in the potty). After a few days of making her put it in the potty she stoped doing it. It is just so frustrating to potty train.

I am also one of those Moms who just figures they will do it when ready...although I did encourage....I told her there were certain things she couldn't do until she learned to pee AND poop in the potty...knowing NO school and ART until that happened was a big help...I also left her potty where she could easily get to it...and also had her sit on it while watching her cartoons...looked over one day and there in the middle of an episode of FRANKLIN was a major red face in the middle of my living room...BUT she was on the potty and had so much fun calling and telling everyone...that was the end of poop in the pants!!!
