i have been potty training my son who will be 3 in May and he does fine if he does not have any underware on but when I put them on he will not use the bathroom and will have accidents in his pants. I know he knows how to do it and can but for some reason will still go in his underware. When he is has underpants on I try to take him every 30 min but he screams b/c he wants to do it on his time. Stickers and M&M worked for a while but he could care less now. Any suggestions?

I'd love to help you but I'm in the same boat. Ds is 2 and will not pee or poo in the potty ever! He wears underwear unless we go out somewhere or he's sleeping. He goes pee every 2- 3 hrs. like clockwork. Sorry i couldn't help.

I'm abosolutely in the same boat! And ds need to be potty trained by Sept to go to preschool. He WILL go, but only if he is naked. If he has undies or a pull up on, he will just have accidents all day.

A trick is to try and recognise the signs they he is going or will be going and get him to the pot ASAP. I've noticed that whenCameron pees in his pull up, he'll grab himself and hold his pants while he is going. This is my cue to get him to stop, and get him on the potty.

I would suggest to keep going with the stickers and M&Ms. Is there a toy he really likes and doesn't have?? I keep telling Cameron if he can go 1 whole day with no accidents, I will buy him a new Thomas train. Hasn't happened yet though.

Ugh Potty training a boy is SO much harder than training girls. My girls were a breeze and they trained quickly and easily.

Yes boys are hard. Hopfully someone out there will be able to shed some light on all of our situations. I guess the key is to just keep trying. Like my Mother-in-Law said no one ever graduates high school and still is in diapers.

If you live in a rural setting as we do it was easier than I thought as we just played outside without bottoms. He ran around and when he had to go I had him go to the creek. We then transitioned the outside going in the creek to the inside in the toilet.

It can't be forced or pushed to get boys to go. They start on their own time and it does take time. If you can it try the outside method which is a requirement in Wyoming! Even girls learn to go outside.

This does not work for city living!!!

If my son was naked from the waist down, no accidents. Dressed accidents. That is until I realized that he needed/wanted to be able to undress himself and go on his own and surprise me with his goings. When he did I let him get a sucker and we did a song and dance I picked him up and bounced around saying Zack went on the pot-ty, Zack went on the pot-ty! After I realized, I dressed him in elastic banded pants and that was it.
Good luck!

I found out yesterday that if I left my now 3 yo son bare bottomed he was willing to go in the potty. He did this on his own. Today - he's refusing to go naked -- and has a diaper on again. Some days are better than others.

Maybe they just aren't ready. My son was 4 1/2 before he was trained. It wasn't because he couldn't go on the pot, but that he wouldn't do it consistantly and I had to keep watching him or he would have accidents. I decided he just wasn't ready and I let him go for a while and tried again when I felt he was better able to handle it. At that time, I had him run around for 4-5 days with no pants on (we stayed home a lot). Once he was consistant going at home, I began taking him out. He had a couple of accidents, but with a week he was fully trained both day and night.

I wish I could give you ladies some words of wisdom, but unfortunately notthing I tried worked for my ds. One day a few weeks before his 3rd bday he just decided that he wanted to wear big boy pants like daddy and that was all it took. So in the end he potty trained himself.
