My 30 month old son has just started blnking constantly. At first I thought maybe it was allergies but I don't think that is it. I stopped letting him watch TV because I thought maybe his eyes were overstimulated. Nope, that didn't work either. I called the pediatrician who thought that it was probably a motor tic. He said these occur in toddlers quite often and usually occur more in boys than girls. He said they last 2months-12 months. He also said not to draw any attention to them and try to keep his life as stress free as possible. I really don't know how to do that! Even though he said these are not something to worry about, I am still worried. Has anybody else had this problem?

Have not had this problem but when i read your post a tic did come to my mind.

I baby sat a 5 year old that had a slight tic of humming. It was a short quick hum noise that he would make. It was kind of a comfort thing for him. It did go away after a short period.

My daughter, now 5, blinked a lot for a while, especially while she was focusing on the TV. She is fine now, but I was worried for a bit. I'd mention it to my pediatrician but if he/she isn't worried, I'd just ride it out.

Its most likely a tic. Or your child may need glasses. I'd go to a pediatric opthamologist and have him tested. It would put you at ease. My son, who wears glasses, develeped an excessive blinking -- turns out his prescription needed to be a little stronger (and his glasses were horribly scratched) and he was trying to focus -- which made the blinking worse. Now that he has new glasses, it has slowly gone away. If it is a tic, what your pediatrician said is true -- ignore it and dont bring attention to it, otherwise he'll think about it and do it more.
