We are about a month away from dd recital and I'm starting to see why everyone says dance is expensive. She has pictures next wk. That'll run at least $13, just bought her tights for the recital $13.90 for 2 pr. If we want a tape of the recital, we can't bring a camcorder, we have to purchase a copy. Don't know the cost of that yet. For the rehearsal wk. its an extra $20 on top of May's tuition $30. AAAHHHH! I asked dd tonight if she wanted to take dance next yr. and she was grumpy and said no but later said yes when she was in a better mood. Dh is gonna flip his lid when he sees the cost of rehearsal tuition. THe instructor said it was in the enrollment form at the beginning of the class, but who remembers that! Anyway, just wondering if anyone else's kids take dance and do you experience the $ woes as well?

Oh yeah I get tired of the nickle and diming!! My girls did not take it this year! You can imagine how much it costs with 2 in!! Now we were allowed to tape during the dress rehersal so I would ask about that! Our DVD cost $30 for the show and it wasn't that good

Just wait! I was very active in dance and competed a ton. My mom said the cost was right up there with the cost for my brothers in hockey. She spent $1000's on dollars a year when you included travel.
Right now I feel like I'm getting out cheap. $37 a month for lessons, $110 for custumes, about $30 for pictures, $30 for shoes and probably about $50 for recital tickets. Lord knows how much I have spent on her tights and her zillon leotards. A couple of us go in on the video and burn it. I know in just a couple years I'll be paying a lot more for the oldest, plus I'll have two in dance!

Dh just got home and saw the newsletter and said "that's it, she's done!" I want it to be dd's decision, not mine and dh's cause of $ concerns. Does that seem crazy? I want her to decide if she likes something or not, not us to decide because we can't afford it. Dh wants to put her in tumbling class, which is cheaper, and my cousin's dd is in it and they're buds. I just don't know. I want to do what's in her best interest.

I had two in dance for years, and yes it got a bit spendy!! One year my girls wanted to go, but we just could not afford the tuition so the instructor let me do some jobs for her throughout the year in exchange for tuition. I still had to pay for costumes and such, but it really helped out.

There gymnastics is about 95$ per kid every 3 months! and soon it will be twice that for 2 days a week!! (youngest who is 5 wants to compete next year and says she will be going to the Olympics someday!! well see!!LOL)

My 4 year old is in the tumbling class at the dance studio we go to, not because it is cheaper, but we thought she would enjoy that at this age. The monthly tuition for tumbling is a bit more expensive than the other classes because it is considered a speciality class. I pay $35 a month for tuition, $50 for recital costume, and tickets this year will be $18 each. She also participated in the Christmas parade, so that was $35 for that costume. We haev pictures coming up, too, but and just like school pictures they are a bit pricey, but of course it is optional to buy. Luckily we are allowed to bring our own cameras and camcorders in during the recital, but there is also a dvd available to purchase. With tumbling this year we did not have to buy any special shoes or tights for the recital. I only have her in one class to keep my costs down. Next year my youngest will also take a class, so my costs will essentially double!

6 yr old is in dance
$31.50 monthly tuition fee
I get her tap and ballet shoes at consignment stores, usually only $4-7/pair
I spent $30 on pictures (one in each costume, personal picture and group shot)
Recital fee was $25
I spent $85 on 2 dance outfits and tights. She let us do a payment plan so I had 8 months to pay it off.
She is cheap compared to other dance companies.
I will do it while she enjoys it.

DD was in dance 2 years ago and it wasn't too pricey, so she took a year off and we enrolled her again (different state, different school) this is SO MUCH more expensive than it was! $50 monthly fee, it was about $50 for both pairs of shoes and almost $200 in recital fees (Costume, auditorium rental (it is in an arena, so that will also cover the mandatory security they require for all events held there) unlimited number of tickets)! We haven't even gotten to the pictures and DVD of the recital...I really wanted DD to dance but am kind of glad she has decided she doesn't want to do it next year.

2 girls in dance, each take tap/jazz/ballet:
Tuition: $850
Costumes: $360
Tights: $40
Shoes: $200
Recital tickets: $40
DVD of recital: $30
Watching how much my dd's love being on stage: PRICELESS
I dont do the professional pictures, if I did it would be at least $120 per child.
Yes, its expensive. It kills me to pay $60 per costume for them to wear it for 2 1/2 MINUTES each on stage, then to have them go into the dress up box when theyre done. But I keep reminding myself how much the girls love it. My mom took me out of dance after 4 years because it got to be too expensive (and I had to decide in 3rd grade if I wanted to be a Rockette - of course I said no at that age - and that was the end of dance for me) back then I think she paid $10 per month for tap and ballet. She'll never live it down. So I will let the girls dance as long as they want to dance.
