My oldest DD has picked her own clothes out since she was 5. My DD-7 yrs. will wear only skirts (that twirl!) and she loves tank tops, as far as matching, she never does! Luckily, my 2 yr. old DS has no problem with what I put on him!

I love that McDonalds commercial where the mom is saying what goes into their tummy is more important that whats on it. And it has those 2 little girls that obviously dressed themselves.

A case of pick your battles I suppose. For special occasions and such I think its important but for just a normal day, nah. I'm lucky if I match most days.

We have two choices for pants in the morning for ds: Khakis or nice jeans. He may wear either. I pick his shirt because he couldn't care less. Last year it was very important for him to pick his shirt (he was 4 then) but this year just tells me 'whatever' and I pick it for him. Having a son I think it may be easier (but I could be wrong) because boys have less choices in general for clothes.

I also wouldn't care if he didn't match at all. I think if it is important to him as long as it was appropriate wear I'm ok with it.

Don't have to worry about any unibrows here LOL, although if I did I would inspect it periodically and do what I needed to to. Personally I don't like the thought of kids of mine walking around with them!! This is fixable!

DD is three and has just started showing interest in picking out her clothes and dressing herself. I would love her to be in all matching, perfect, cute clothes, but I restrain myself and let her wear her choices. We met DH for lunch just the other day and she was in a full length gymnastic leotard and sandals. We got some looks but she was so proud of her outfit. She couldn't wait to tell DH that she picked out her outfit and put it on all by herself. Her pride and happiness fully outweighed the looks we got.

As long as the outfit is appropriate for the weather and it is not a formal function -- weddings, funerals, church, etc.....I think this is a battle worth letting the kids win. JMO.

I am the same way. Most mornings it an uphill battle, but I usually win.

Carson and Parker care greatly about how they look. Carson is really good at putting his outfits together, and Parker is pretty good. If they are staying home, I don't care if they match or not, but if we are going out or they are off to school....then I care. I don't inspect them, but if Parker has on black socks with brown shorts and a red shirt, I will let him know what a great job he did getting dressed, but I have some socks that will go better with his outfit. That way he learns how to match his clothes without it being a big deal. Wyndser wants everything pink...so that is pretty easy.
