I have a dd (4) and ds(2). Dd has to pick out her clothes, get dressed, make her bed, pick up her toys, brush her teeth. Ds has to pick up his toys. Do your toddlers have chores? I know ds's isn't a lot but I don't think he can do much more than that and help himself get dressed. He's very helpful emptying the dishwasher though.

My dd is 5 1/2 and she has to make her bed, put her toys away, pick up her room, put away her clean clothes, and pick up in her bathroom everyday. If she completes each chore she gets a check mark & at the end of the week she gets .25cents for each checkmark. My ds is 2 and I just have him help to clean up his toys.

When my DD was a preschooler (she is 5 now), she had to help me feed the dog and help set the table on top of the usual: clean her room, pick-up her toys. When they are as young as 2 a lot of their chores are to help me do things: help me load the washer, help me transfer the clothes to the dryer, help me load the dishwasher, help me put away their laundry, etc.

That's basically what we have Riley (she's 3) do now. She is my biggest helper. Also she is the best plant waterer. I just sit on the patio and watch her go back and forth watering all of the flowers in the backyard. She loves it and the plants look great!

They don't really...we don't have specific 'chores' for each child. I do have expectations though, and I expect them to keep their bedroom tidy, keep their bathroom tidy, keep the playroom tidy, put away toys that they play with outside etc

If I need someone to empty the dishwasher, shovel the sidewalk, brush the dog etc I just ask one of them to do it and I expect them to do it without complaining. So far - so good! My kids are 9 and 12 and they aren't complainers and are happy to help...sometimes they take the initiative and just do stuff on their own. Last week my younger son took it upon himself to just empty the dishwasher. On this past Sunday, my older son emptied all the garbage cans for me when I was in the garage organizing the recycling in anticipation of garbage day the next morning...it was a nice surprise. So it works for us!

DD is supposed to make her bed, make sure her dirty clothes are in the basket, put her dirty dishes in the sink, and pick up her room/toy room/living room, anywhere that she has made a mess.

The hard part is getting her to do this. We tried a chore chart and stickers and allowance, but nothing keeps her on track.

Currently everyone is expected to do the normal stuff...make bed, pick up toys (things), bring dishes to sink after meals, etc.. My younger too do the following in addition...

4yo ~ empty garbage up & down bath, vacuum playroom, help with dishwasher

2yo ~ help unload dishwasher

& any other tasks I have delegated or requested

(My 10yo & 6yo also have age appropriate chores)

This is kind of off topic, kind of not..

When I was younger, my parents set up a system where we each started out with $5 at the beginning of the week. We had a list of chores to do throughout the week (listed visibly on the fridge). We had a family meeting at the end of every week and my parents would give us all $5 worth of quarters, then put a jar in the middle of the table. Every chore we slacked on, we had to throw a quarter in the jar. Let me tell you - 20 quarters goes FAST to a kid!! After we got through all of that, we were given the choice to put the rest of our quarters in the Disney fund or to keep them. Oh, and my mom secretly hid the jar of quarters from us slacking on our chores, saved it up and used that on our Disney trip, instead of just spending the money elsewhere. You'd be amazed at what my brothers did for their 20 quarters. Stuff got done - we had to earn our KEEP of the money we were "given" on Monday morning. I bet my mom wishes my brother was as motivated by $5 now as he was 10 years ago -- the kid won't do ANYTHING around the house, leaving my mom to care for my dad (who became a paraplegic just over a year ago) and the house all by herself. I could slap him.. but we won't go there........

My 3 yr old has taken over helping feed the dog. They both help set the table and clear their plates from the table. I know my 6 yr old should be making his bed but its the top bunk so I dont expect perfection. He kinda just throws the comforter up to his pillow. They have to pick up their toys.
