My DS will be turning 2 in November and then there is Christmas in December, I am at lost to what to get him. We are on a tight budget and can't be extravagant. For those of you with boys what are they in to? I have a 4 year girl and she has always been easy to buy for, and a lot of the toys she played with were passed down to DS. It has been hard to come up with new ideas for DS now that DD is branching into all girl things, DS doesn't have as many passed down items.

My ds was still mainly interested in the wrapping paper and bows lol!! His birthday is around christmas two so I bought him things he could use throu out the year. I do buy some of his things at consignment shops. I think I bought him a ride in little coupe to ride around in the house, Not outside. He iis almost 4 and still uses it. He really liked little people at that age too.

How big of a gift? Little small things or a bigger item, too? That will make a difference in suggestions for you.

Hot Wheels were always a hit with my son..and maybe you could get a little play mat with roads he can "drive" them on. Dump trucks, tonka trucks. Here is a little people vehicle set for 10.99 http://www.toysrus.com/product/index...entPage=search
and you can get a Playmat from their website for $4.99(that includes ship) https://store.mattel.com/transition....ransitionID=55

run to the store now while school supplies are still on sale and make him his very own art kit. Get markers, crayons, glue, construction paper, glitter etc. You could even use a shoebox or a plastic box and put his name on it for him. Maybe make a special playdough box too with cookie cutters, simple kitchen tools, etc. Think about maybe making some homemade games for him and big sis for Christmas - homemade matching games, bingo, fishing games with a magnet and paper clips, etc. 2 & 4 year olds are pretty easy to please with simple stuff. They don't really care or need $50 toys.

Thank you for all your suggestions, I will let you know what I end up getting for him. I am happy that they are still young and don't care if their present is $50 or $5. It makes buying presents, and starying in budget easier.

We found a workshop and tool set on clearance last year my son got that for his 2nd bday, he loves it! He also loves Geotrax train sets. Art stuff is always a winner! So are puppets, pretend play things like kitchen items, you know play dishes, pots and pans, etc for their kitchen. He loves my dd's barbies so he got a ken doll in his stocking last year. I found him a remote control fire truck at a yard sale last year he loves that too. Just trying to think what he loves most at 2. Oh musical instruments are the best!

At this age my son started to get Hot Wheels cars and loved them. They're pretty cheap and you can even get him a cool box to carry them in.

I would go for Mega blocks. My ds's are 14mo and 4 1/2yrs and they both LOVE these. I just saw them at Costco very cheap, a bag of them for like $13 or something for I think 120pcs, maybe 80, I'm not sure. I paid way more than that at Toys R Us.

I really like the idea of the home made art kit too. That's a really great idea.

My boys also love Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars too. Those are always great stocking stuffers i get.
