what and how much to pack? my ds is going to school for the first time. PreK~4, it is an afternoon program 5 days a week So he'll eat lunch before he goes and they have snack time later. What should I pack for him I don't want to give him too little, or too much. This is all new to me.

Do you pack a snack just for him at your preschool? My DD has to bring a snack once every other month (she goes twice a week from 12-3) for the entire class (17 students) it includes an actual snack for everyone and something for everyone to drink (milk, juice, water). Most of the preschools in our area do it this way. I guess I have never heard of packing a snack just for your child daily. I would pack things like the crackers and cheese packs, pudding cup or even make 1/2 of a peanut butter sandwich or something. Does he have to bring his own drink too? Or is it just the actual snack?

On fridays the parents take turns bringing in a snack for the class of 13. But the other 4 days we pack a snack & drink for our own child. Here at home he has always had an afternoon snack. And it is usually a few fig newton, slice of cheese, and things like that. But, I was wondering what others do, He may be more hungry being more active. Besides I don't want him sitting there with his fig newtons while his friends are eating something more appealing. KWIM?

Wow my son would love fig newtons for a snack.

Wyatt has just started preschool and the first day he had some crackers and a juice box. Today i sent him half a turkey sandwich. I will probably get some cheese and crackers, grapes, banana, baby carrots and things like that.

my son is starting pre k, they have lunch there and a snack. they didnt say anything to us about bringing a snack so i am assuming it is provided but you wouldnt think it was, idk though. what i am worried about is his lunch, he is such a picky eater, and it depends on what mood he is in and so on if he will even eat his favorite food, so i am trying to figure out what to ahve him take in his lunch. i dont want to have to pay for his lunch at school if he isnt going to eat it, and thye have peanut butter sandwiches all the time, but im not going to pay 1.00 for one peanut butter sandwich when i can buy a loaf of bread for less then a doolar and i get the peanut butter on wic. so i am thinking of haveing him take his lunch every day, maybe get him the lunchables or something he might eat those.

My boys are in sk and 1st grade and still have to bring a snack. We have had to do this for a couple of years. I usually send a chewy granola bar or an apple or banana. You'll want to send something that doesn't take too long to eat, easy to open, and doesn't have to be refridgerated. Good Luck!

I would send a small amount of two things. That way if he's not in the mood for one of them he'd still have something. Like maybe one or two cookies and 6 grapes. Or a banana and a few snack crackers. Nothing elaborate and nothing too big.

Just a thought...be careful packing peanut butter sandwiches. My kids have a peanut free school, due to the possibility of peanut allergies. You may want to check with your school...KWIM?

Well today my dh & i go with him for a couple of hours before his first day alone monday. I packed him a few cheez it's, and little peanut butter & jelly sandwich stars.(no peanut free zone in his classroom. I'll look and see what the other parents pack. He will be in afternoon pre-k. So he will be in school at his normal lunch time. So I think that will be an adjustment for him. So he may eat more at the snack and less at lunch before we go for awhile. You could starve a bird on what he eats normally anyway.
